Default Phase 3 F-16 Power System Recommendationa

Hello All,

I'm new to the EDF scene and I'm interested in diving into my first build but I'm a little unsure how to start.

I have been flying a Parkzone Habu for about a month now that a co-worker gave me and it's been fun, but it was pretty beat up when I got it and I think I'm ready to build something of my own.

I know the Phase 3 F-16 is an extremely popular EDF for beginners and experts alike and I think I've settled on it being something I would enjoy building, but I can't seem to find a consensus on a good power system to run in it.

They don't make the receiver-ready models anymore (as far as I can tell) and I would like something affordable that will get me decent performance. I don't need to push the limits, I just want something I can get started with.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a power system? Thanks!

Not sure where you go to purchase stuff, but any decent 3S 55mm fan setup would work nicely. The stock power system was 55mm and flew it about 70mph.

However, if you are looking for the RX-ready kit, my friend Richard at Airshow RC still has it listed on his website:

He's in Colorado too (Denver), so he may be local. You can contact him at wingspan100@gmail.com to see if he still has these.

Great! Thank you! I sent him an email because I will be all over that if he has some in stock. Otherwise I'll shoot for a decent 55mm fan. Thanks again.

Be sure to tell him his friend Pat wants a kickback if he does have them.

I have one and the Squall from Phase 3. Pretty easy flyers but I thought they were 64mm. Got mine from Hobby People.
They go on sale from time to time.
some guys have been hopping them up with Mercury edf's from Taiwan. Google it and you'll see. Makes it a Rocket ship.

Only downside to Phase 3 is that they are made from beer cooler foam.
If you want an easy flyer but more durable(EPO) consider the Freewing 64mm F9F Panther. Value Hobby and Motion RC have them for around $80 PNP

No more receiver ready kits from Airshow RC unfortunately so I'm back to square one.

I think they're have been a few versions of the F-16 because the Hobby People website says the stock fan setup is 55mm but it seems from what I could gather that most people are putting 64mm or 70mm fans in the air-frame pretty easily now that they don't come with a stock propulsion system.

Thanks for the recommendation of the F9F. I'll take a look at that. That seems to be right in my budget range.

the description does say it needs a 55mm fan unit. I bought one of the complete ARF kits a while back, it came with a 70mm fan !! I would go no smaller than a 64mm !

nothing to it, but to do it !
