Check out the horsepower behind this formal complaint filed against the FAA today:

Has given this academic debt accumulator (me) a little more respect for "how" my money is being distributed by the higher level learning institutions.....

My daughter is a professor at one of these institutions. When I visited with her family last spring I gave her sons, 6 and 8, one of the small Husban quadcopters and showed them how to fly it. They both could, after a few tries.

I've forwarded the .pdf to them.

Thank you for advising.

I've read the cease and desist order to Reed Timmer concerning his use of these model airplanes for investigating tornados and other similar type weather patterns.

Reed is trying to document these weather phenomenon to SAVE lives. On the other hand, the FAA is grounding the use of UAV's for this purpose since they might have issues with full scale planes.

I for the life of me can't understand why anyone flying a full scale airplane would fly closer than many miles from a tornado, and Reeds UAV equipment. This model equipment just seems to be a perfect match to investigations of this sort. They can fly close to the weather phenomenons, and if they get hit with some real bad wind conditions, the pilot is only out a bunch of $$$$, not his life.

It just seems strange to me.
