View Full Version : Sloping the Outer Banks

In about a week I'll be heading south the the Outer Banks of North Carolina for two weeks of surf fishing. On my way to Avon, where I'll be staying, I pass Jockey's Ridge State Park and the "walking dunes". This is a very popular spot for hang gliding, kite flying and, so I'm told, slope soaring.

My truck will be chock full of fishing gear but I could fit a plane in there if there was a good possibility of getting some quality stick time.

If anyone has any info about sloping at this location I'd sure like to hear about it. Info like, is there a fee or a schedule to follow, parking areas and how do you access the top of the slope. Also, what's a good wind direction. Any help would be appreciated.

I have been a couple of times there to HG .. terrible place for HG but anyway .. they do it ..

some even PG .. i wonder .. doesn't the sand bother them ?!
I would never put my sail there ..

Anyway, my point is that I have never seen any RCs .. you should check with the park rangers be4 you head out to the dunes .. well, if you go early enough no one is there anyway ..

OBX is gr8 .. i loved it .. : )
