Used to be two sites, last.fm and audioscrobbler, but now audioscrobbler is just used for development.

Basically it keeps track of the music you play on your computer or iPod, then

Lists your weekly top artists (along with play count)
lists your all time top songs and top artists (along with play count)
recommends you music based on what you listen to
tells you about people who have similar taste
allows you to create little groups of people.
Organize music based on custom tags

The coolest part:

Listen to your personal "radio station" on any internet connected computer, via live stream (costs 3 bucks a month)
Listen to your music and the music of your "neighbors"-people with similar taste, online for FREE
lets others listen to your radio as well

And you dont have to worry about getting tagged for piracy- it can't tell the difference between legal and illegal music. And if you listen to unreleased tracks- its based in england, where the recording industry lawyers cant do anything about it
