View Full Version : FYI Tachometer's

I have been having trouble getting a tachometer to work in mt shop. I have old eyes and have a lot of floroescent lights, which we know mess's up a tachometer. You test a tach by holding it to the light and it should read 3600 rpm, for those who have never read the instructions. I did because of my problem of not being able to get one to work.

Tried incandesant lights and they didn't help. Got 3700 reading all the time.
I was talking to David at Hobby LobbySales, he tells me that the 60 cycle in the incandesant light mess's it up also. Use any direct current light source, flashlight, etc.

It works!!!

Axi turned 7300 rpm, 11x3.8, 3s1500 lipo fresh charged.

I did send him a thank you, and hope this might save someone else the same way.

Yep, any light powered by household current actually flickers on and off 60 times per second, or 3600 times per minute. Doesn't matter if it's flourescent, incandescent, halogen, or otherwise... They all flicker and throw your RPM readings off.
