View Full Version : Where do you Fly in Europe

I live in Wiesbaden Germany, over the last year or two, I have found myself in an electronics store named Conrad. They have a large R/C section.. so I then got into E-Flight... after beating up the farm field next to my town, I asked the guy's at Conrad where everyone flys.. I have been invited to visit a local Glider club in the neighboring city of Mainz.

They seem to like that I do AV stuff... I might be so daring as to join their club and be the AV guy..

so.. my experimental flights and just fun flights are in Wiesbaden, but my field just might be Mainz.

I am located in Wuerzberg. I do the majority of my flying on the old parade field on Leighton Barracks. But sometimes I'll take my slow parkflyer out to the farmers' field right by our house.

I haven't found any clubs near my area at all. But I guess I haven't really looked that hard, either.

What brings you to Deutschland? I am an Army warrant officer.

Well, I have been stationed in Frankfurt, then Kitzingen for the greater portion of the 90s until I got out in 01. 17th Sig and 121 Sig. now I am a contractor in Wiesbaden.

Chief, what are you doing in Wu? I thought all was shut down!! I know the field you mean, been to many a fest there on Leighton.

After seeing your bike on your profile, I thought you were Chief D. my old warrant officer from 121..

I am down that way every other weekend and sometimes I bring my plane and fly next to Harvey Bks..

You are right, Leighton is a ghost town. I think it is going to be turned over before the end of next summer.

Harvey.... is that the one that had the golf course?
We are going to have a hectic summer this year but maybe we can hook for an afternoon fly-in some time.

Larson has the golfcourse.. and a nice road in the middle for a runway.. ID cards still get you in, but there is NOBODY there anymore.. I was just down there and drove my POV into my old motorpool on Larson to take some pics with my son.

Harvey has the airstrip, but it is starting to be populated with weekend full-scales..

Welcome to WattFlyer!!
I like the idea of using Google Maps
My Field is just below this arrow (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=biegerstrasse+wiesbaden&sll=51.071228,1.078205&sspn=0.008926,0.015814&ie=UTF8&ll=50.079135,8.281202&spn=0.009116,0.015814&t=h&z=16&iwloc=addr&om=1)

What is your primary interest? Helis or fixed wing?

Welcome to WattFlyer Gazz!

But you do have a few fellow wattheads in your area!

Check out the WattFlyer Member Map (http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/vbgooglemapme.php?)

What do you like to fly? What is IC?

See, now i found the map i didn't know about! Cheers for that. As for flying, started many many years ago with a diesel powed C/L, progressed up to an RC SE5a with 2m span, plus a few big gliders in there somewhere. Time and work forced a temporary retirement for about 7 years, but have now found the easy solution in electric flight, hence the membership on here. Learning all the time, and loving it. Awful weather last week or two, so not been out, but next purchase will be a bigger plane, so the wind doesnt bother me so much. Looking at the map, nearest wattflyer is about an hour away from me, so will send him a PM, see if we can hook up.

Only just noticed this thread, so I thought I'd better write.

Been flying now for nearly 2 years and can't believe how quick the time has gone ! I fly at my local greenspace down here in the SE, nice fields, plenty of space with only the odd dog walker around, most of them knpw me by now and always comment on my planes :).

Up to my 6th model now and am just going to have a go at 3D flying next with a Multiplex Acromaster. There's another watthead, David M who lives nearby and joins me flying on the occasional afternoon, he's only just converted over to electric, with an EDF jet.

Latvia ... in the Baltic. Actual town - Ventspils.

English guy living and working here.

Flying can be either Ventspils Airport or farm fields ....
