View Full Version : A new way to bookmark?

Mike,

Would it be possible for users to have the ability to have "bookmarks" for threads they want saved for future reference? For example, there is a thread by James that outlines how to mount the TowerPro motor on the plastic mount. Periodically, I like to review the pics there to make sure I am doing it right. While I could bookmark it on my browser, if I am not using that computer, then I need to find it another way. If there was a place where each member could have their own bookmarks, then I could access these from any computer I am using.

If this is just plain stupid, or extremely difficult, then I understand; if it is feasible, I think it could be a beneficial tool.

Thanks for listening to me ramble.

Kev,
There isnt anything like that right now. We do have a feature called Personal Stickies.
http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30084

See if that works for you.

Mike,

I have that on a thread or two, but it doesn't follow from PC to PC. Is it supposed to? Perhaps I used it wrong.

If it DOES follow me, then that would work fine.

Kev,
It will show no matter what computer you are using. It is a system function and not a cookie function. Once you Stick a thread, the system keeps tabs on those and when you open a forum looks at your username+taglist and then displays it appropriately.

I double checked last night hopping around three computers. If it isnt working like that for you, let me know.

Mike,

OK I tried to stick this thread (http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31473) by clicking thread tools, then stick to top. No joy. I go to the Beginners section and it isn't there. This is on the same computer I did it on.

Bekah is fine, slight fever, but tonsils are ok. Just gotta treat with Advil and popsicles if they hurt her. I also got to learn today how to put an earring in after she lost one. What fun.

Kev,
Try clearing your cookies, history and try it again. Sounds like you have an old template in your cache.

Also check the beginner forum and let me know if you see two orange push pins and two threads stuck to the top.

Ah, Blessed be Google Bookmarks. I have four computers I use, at least three of which on a daily basis: two at work and two at home. I have firefox (not required though I recommend it) with the Google toolbar installed on 3 of the 4, the forth requiring IE, and as long as I am logged in to Google, my bookmarks follow me around. For instance, I am at work right now. I can bookmark this thread, and when I get home tonight it will be present in my google bookmarks list. Here's a list of FAQs (http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/03/google-bookmarks-faq.html)about the system. The beauty of it is that this bookmarking system works for any URL on the web, and not just for Wattflyer. It will revolutionize how you surf.

Mike,

I just looked and there are yellow pushpins on the two you mention, and a third I tried last night. I am on a work computer, and had to sign in, so maybe it is the cookies (at least in my instance). I will log out and log in on my home computers and see what that does for me.

GRU,

Thanks, that is an option I will give a look-over.

Mike,

Just to add, I cleared my cache and cookies (with milk, no less ;)), but it still will not show me the thread I referenced in post 1 of this thread stuck to the top. Any thoughts or progress on what you found?

Have a great weekend!

firefox also has a similar add on called foxmarks. it syncs your bookmarks so when you go from pc to pc you'll have them all there, and they also sync to the iphone browser which is handy

Mike,

Happened again. I stickied this thread:

http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31848&highlight=dx7+throttle

yesterday. I was at work today, logged into Wattflyer, and it wasn't stuck. Tried at home tonight and it wont show at the top. If I click the Thread Tools, it has an "Unstick Thread" option, which I take to mean it knows it is stuck. But it just ain't there.

Any new ideas?

Let me check. It could be a stray cron job that I missed something on.
