View Full Version : Floats on a Telemaster .40 size

A friend of mine, who is a master builder, is putting together a .40 size Telemaster powered with an EFlite Power 46 motor, a JETI 70 Amp ESC all of which will be powered with a 4400 MAH 3s1p lipoly rated at 15C diacharge. It will fly with that setup but off water? What size floats will be needed?
Any and all replies appreciated.

Most .40 size airplanes need floats in the range of about 32" long. Telamasters are biggish, so you mifght think they need longer floats, but they are light, too.

The most quantitative guideline I know is: Put the step under 40% of the mean aerodynamic chord. The nose of the float should be 25% of the prop diameter in front of the prop. The overall length of the float should be 75% of the length from the prop washer to the rudder hinge line.
