I wanted to do this poll because I wanted to know if anyone else is my age. The results should be interesting...

At time of posting, I am 43, I figure I am roughly half way there, however in the last 18 months i have been informed of 4 friends roughly my age(give or take 3 years) cashing in their chips. (1 car accident, 1 liver failure/ alcoholism, 1 heart attack, and 1 lung cancer (42 best friend in high school, died last week). I know it is going to get worse as I get older but i didn't figure it would start so soon.:(

Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway.
47 and starting to feel it. 2 shoulder surgeries in the last 6 months have let me know my body isn't as spry as it once was. Then again I work in an industry that is notoriously hard on the body. Most truck drivers look at least 10 years older than their true age.

I suspect I'm far older than the OP. Also in the same boat of loosing friends my age of well over 70. Some of whom are family.

59 and overweight.

I've actually just changed job because of this. I travel too much and cannot control diet / physics of the work. I get tired too easily. So now I have accepted work that I will stay at home more and hopefully get my health back on line again.

I can also fly more !

. . . I work in an industry that is notoriously hard on the body. Most truck drivers look at least 10 years older than their true age.

Huh. Everything I know about trucking I learned from Dave Dudley (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHbGhEfnh2E). I thought what aged truckers prematurely was them little white pills that keep y'all's eyes open wide. ;)

As for myself there's no "about" about it. I am exactly as old as I am.

"Six Days on the Road and I'm gonna make it home tonight!"

I'm 63 and in very good shape. Genetics or lifestyle, I don't know what. I attribute it to not caring much one way or the other. I work a 49 hour week in a high tech factory (I'm a glorified machinist/mechanic). Have a few vices but no addictions. Since I don't need to work out or have any illnesses, the illusion that I'm still in my 20's is working good so far, unless I look in a mirror. Then I feel sorry for the poor little monkey and wonder why someone hung its picture over my bathroom sink. My hearing isn't what it used to be, or maybe that is an affectation, as I never listen to anybody. I'm looking forward to becoming a cranky old bastard when/if I get "old", and am practicing this every day until I become good at it. The Girlfriend From Hell is 7 years younger, and I hope she can manage to keep up with me.

The line from an old Elton John song, Talking Old Soldiers; "How do they know what it's like to have a graveyard for a friend....?" pretty well sums up my social life.

Oh, and I had a horse once.

Tom

p.s. So, applepi, how old are you?

Those pills were common back in the day but are mostly a thing of the past.
The big problem is long periods of sedentary activity followed by short periods of extreme physical activity.
It's killer on the joints and most importantly the heart.

apple the op,

is probably a bit shocked how many old foggies there are here at wattflyer.:D

59years old, heart attack in 04,open heart in 09,and feeling fit as a fiddle in 2015:ws:

i have hcm,a genetic defect where the heart thickens and blocks blood flow. fortunately i never dropped dead when i was younger lifting weights to keep fit and doing carpentry for 21 years.
my condition is not that uncommon and when young athletes drop dead on the court or ball field they often get diagnosed with this heart issue. theres no tell tale signs unless you get tested. seems some schools are beginning to take notice of simpler test to see their athletes are safe to play. the Lord spared my life during all those reckless days of partying and working out like a nut.:$

apple ,just curious......highschool or college??? clearly theres only one person in the 0-19 age group...and it's not me..lol.

54 now. Didn't start flying until I was 47 or so. The poll results are about the demographics of my flying club. But we did just have a 15 year old girl join who is one of the best 3D pilot I've seen. Flies the big gasser planes with her dad. My plan is move into the club's shelter/house at the flying field when I retire, (don't tell my wife that.)

My bro' & I(we're twins) turned 71 in Dec & we both still stay very active although retired officially. I still do p/t work in my welding/mach./fab shop & my bro' builds Chevy race engines p/t now also. Time has come to really back off serious work & enjoy each of the "premium" days we have. We both love RC & he's an old school balsa builder/gas-nitro buff & I'm into PNP foamy electrics with (1) gas model(SigSeniorita). I found that a bit of work really helps physically & mentally to keep those cobwebs at bay.

+1 on that. My daughter asked me what I wished I be called (by my grand kids), so as not to confuse me with their dad's parents. I suggested "Opa" which is what me and my brother called our mother's father. So I'm not a gramps, I'm an Opa :D:tc:
