Humanity Shines Through...

As most already know, Americus was virtually destroyed by Tornadoes that ripped through the area in early April. I should have taken photos of the damage around town, but couldnt bring myself to do it.

SEFF is a world class event and as demonstrated Friday and Saturday it host's world class individuals. The Fayette Flyers spoke with the locals and an area Pastor (I should have caught his name), and made the decision to donate all of the event entrance fee's to the Local fund setup to help those displaced by the storms. At the pilot meeting Saturday we also did a "pass the hat" and everyone gave generously. Horizon Hobby stepped up to the plate and raffled off a Diamante 25 RTF with a Spektrum DX7. I need to obtain the exact numbers, but if my memory serves me correctly, those two donations netted $4100.00 in donations. Charlie Wang also stepped up to the plate and wrote a check for $10,000.00 to the fund! Amazing generosity and reinforces my faith of being in the right hobby.

My numbers may be scewed, but I'll get an exact dollar amount and correct my post as I think it is actually higher.

HobbyLobby did a candy drop for all the kids on Saturday with the big Telemaster. They dropped just a hair upwind instead of show center, but it gave the kids a good run :) Kudos to HL for keeping our future modellers in mind.

Best of Show

Every year the Staff at SEFF walks the flightline and nominates models for Best of Show. It doesnt matter how large or small and this is an award that money or sponsorship has no factor.

My notes are at home, but here are the photos. I'll update with the spec's later.

Wow Keith won!!!

His OV-1 Mohawk is stunning....and you are right Mike a nicer guy could not be found. He is genuine and a master modeller. To think that thing started as a hunk of foam!

Amazing - congrats Sparky!

I was very happy for Keith as well.

Did not know til we got there and met him that he is the guy who designed and made a kit the C-130 I have!:D

That was one of the highlights of my trip!

He sure does have some beautiful aircraft.

No kidding he is a great guy and nice to have him local. I am lucky enough to fly with him regularly!

Don't know why he didn't bring this beauty......(likely not enough room!)......

Well I took a few shots of the flight line to let you guys see just how big this event has grown. I think this was my best of the bunch that showed the whole aera.

Sparky said he didn't take the 757 because it was going to be a grass field. He had the MD80 instead.

The Mohawk is indeed of Top Gun quality and deserved the win (from a biased friend of Sparky's :) ).

Great Pics

I meant to take some Sat too but being my first SEFF, I was taking it all in and only remembered to take a few. I guess there's always next year. Thanks for the pics, they turned out good. One of my sons even ended up in a candy drop picture.
