CAP PACK/Capacitor pack

Twin Motor Plane 'Twin Otter', going to run 12" extensions from 4S 4500 MaH Lipo Battery in Fuselage to 60 AMP ESC's in Motor Pods/Mounts, going use Castle Creation CAP PACK next to ESC's

Instructions for CAP PACK states for use with 8 inch extensions only, any problems stretching that out to 12 inches

Best electrical solution: battery packs in the nacelles or wings. Lowest resistance in battery and motor wires, lowest inductance in battery wires.
Second best: controllers in fuselage, near battery. Lowest battery wire inductance.

  • Two problems
    ◦ Voltage spikes higher than battery voltage: transistor/FET/chip breakdown.
    ◦ Current through input capacitors too high: overheating/popping/exploding.
  • Example https://static.rcgroups.net/forums/i...lies/frown.gif four costly controllers consecutively cremated
  • Solution I: simply lengthen the motor wires instead https://static.rcgroups.net/forums/i...lies/smile.gif
  • Solution II: add extra capacitors, rules of thumb

Appreciate the reply, I just assumed the ESC had to be next to the Motors, in my case the Battery has no choice but to be in the fuselage which means using about 12" extensions to the ESCs, extending the Motor Wires from the ESCs to the Motors a nice solution instead of the expense of Capacitor Packs

Just make sure the ESCs gets (moving) cooling air in the fuselage.
