It's time for the "I can't think of anything but SEFF" thread!

With only one week left before I leave for that little piece of heaven in Andersonville, GA, I guess it's time to get on the ball.

I got the Saab/WRX serviced, all the fluids checked, tires rotated, and fuel filled today. Over the past few weeks of repairs and modifications I cleaned the car out fairly well, so that the only things floating around are the things I must have when driving in general-the emergency kit, hand tool set, and all the normal stuff.

I went ahead and packed the chairs, table, and canopy today. I was pleasantly surprised to find the canopy would fit in sideways....the hatch is actually much narrower than the rear seat area, and I was afraid I would need to lay it fore-aft in the hatch.

I had originally hoped I could pack in such a way that would allow me to leave the rear sets unfolded...This might yet be possible, as the canopy, chairs, and a few other items might fit into the rear seats with the backs still up. But I'll have to play with that this weekend.

So what's left to do? I need to finish my GWS Zero...I have a few combat airframes to cut, although I think I'll save the assembly until I get down there so I have something to work on. I have 2 planes to test fly-it's been a couple months since they've flown and I want to give them a shakedown. I have 2 more that are new and need to be took out on their maidens. These are the only things I MUST work on, anything else that gets done will be a bonus.

Left to pack...

Transmitter case
Charger case
Cameras and electronics I can't survive without
storage bin of various building tools/tapes/paints/glue gun/soldering iron/spare motors, ESCs, and servos
Clothing (optional)
Hygiene, sleeping bag and pillows (optional)
Cooler full of drinks and snacks

I'm sure I'm leaving things out, but hey, I got a week...

Ohh...crap....I've only got ONE WEEK!!! I better get to work!

Don and I met up today to test fly our GWS Night Rally planes. His Formosa did great! My Zero did okay until one of the aileron servos failed. I managed to bring it back down with no damage.

Don Sims 03-31-2014 12:38 AM

Yep, I thought for sure you were going to crash it, then thought you were using the rudder to land. The only problem was the Zero had no rudder and it was all skill landing as well as you did with one aileron!

Is what we were flying. You did a fantastic job on them.

Don Sims 03-31-2014 12:47 AM

You decide on your route down yet? Jenny and I were talking about options at dinner.

crash_out 03-31-2014 12:47 AM

Actually looking at it right now.

Don Sims 03-31-2014 12:54 AM

Worked out a way to bring the Alula if it doesn't rain too hard and have a plan B if there is a lot of rain. Putting the tote bin I cut on top of the new box. Looks stupid, but who cares!!

crash_out 03-31-2014 01:00 AM

So long as it gets everything there...probably beats a trailer.

Don Sims 03-31-2014 01:05 AM

People have put hitches on Vstroms, Wonder how it would handle me and gear.

Okay, about 10 hours until my personal SEFF 2014 start. Spent the day doing my time at work, then came home to pack. Been packing since 1PM, and finally got to a stopping point. I have a few things more to pack, but they are things that I might need to access on the trip.

So here's this years packing job. Not as elegant as last years, but I learned a little. I left a bit more space for things to be brought home, and overall less and smaller planes since I actually end up flying very little.

Crash never saw someone pack a car like you can your the master I bow down to you.

Make sure you have some fun for me. It's killing me not to be going down to RC paradise. Bill and Mason are on the road all ready I think he said they would be there by Thurs. You have a safe trip down yourself.

Don Sims 04-03-2014 12:38 AM

Dang Nick, you have learned a lot about packing for a SEFF excursion! We already have tornado warnings in the area so be safe getting out if here!

crash_out 04-03-2014 09:54 AM

I'm off! Warm outside, little windy, but I hopefully am heading out ahead of the bad stuff.

Don Sims 04-03-2014 10:35 AM

Have a safe journey! See you gents next week!

Nice packing job! I'm not headed out until Mon morning, but I started packing today. I tried something new this year and took the passenger seat out of my truck. I was able to put a few of the bulky things in it's place, freeing up some space in the bed. It also gives me some extra flat space to load planes before I leave...

Don Sims 04-05-2014 10:22 PM

That is a great idea Murman. Nick, Laine, Fireman Bill and his son are already there. I'll head out early Wednesday.

crash_out 04-17-2014 03:06 PM

I've threatened, on several occasions, to remove the passenger seat to make room for longer planes...my laziness usually wins out, though...

Murman 04-18-2014 02:14 AM

That ended up being one of the smartest ideas I've had in a while. I was able to pack all of the planes I wanted to take with me with plenty of room for new planes on the return trip.

Here's a photo of Nick's car on the way back. His Saab was packed to the ceiling with stuff. He had to take a plane he won at the raffle out of the box to fit it in.
