I figured it out. If I plug the left and right servo into the opposite channel on the receiver and then reverse both of them in the transmitter the flaperon setting will work as a spoileron setting.

You're right. It has to do with the number of cells. The manual did not mention this, but I tried a battery with less cells and it discharged at a higher rate.
