I was hoping you had found some park flyer sized rotating retracts, but these are not.
You could install them in a P-40 I'm sure, but they would not be in the scale location. The P-40 gear folds back and rotates 90 degrees, and they are set relatively close to the fuselage. With these, you would have to place them a little further apart so that they could fold inward.

As nice as this P-40 is, it's probably not a good candidate for retracts unless you are a more advanced modeler. Just my opinion. I don't actually have one (yet) but if I did I would probably build it without wheels for hand launch. I have an ArtTech Corsair (also rotating retracts in full scale) and it flies best with no landing gear. It's nice and light and will get unlimited vertical on just 200 watts.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately there is no grass to land on as I fly in Arizona and the runway is hard and has alot of small rocks. I will probably go with standard gear and use these on a future model.

Well, I've FINALLY started my GWS P-40. Mine is fully fiberglassed (no wing spar or tail spar), and has the second coat of grey paint on the bottom of the airplane.
Mine will have a different paint scheme as well (see the attached photo) - I like the look of the desert camo, and it's HIGHLY visible in the air. This will be my third airplane (F-16, F-5, P-40) with the desert camo paint scheme...
I'll post a photo when she's ready (which I hope will be this weekend)!

Yeah, unfortunately I have not taken any photos of my build -- and it's almost done!
The build went pretty much like the last one -- with the exception of the full fiberglass and no wing spar (or tail spar). I left a little bit of lead weight out of the tail, because the fiberglass will make it a bit more tail heavy (I hope it evens out).
The first coat of tan paint goes on tonight. I'll post a photo when she's presentable.

Sorry Guy. Something about tax day makes me kind of loopy

Well, she should be ready for a photo shoot tomorrow. I had to take a day off to take the kids to the local (full size) air show, which ended up lasting all day long today...
I tried something new this time, and it's come out very nicely -- I put a small piece of fiberglass over each of the waterslide decals. I did this to make them more resiliant to hangar rash, and landing rash (and flying rash). It's really come out nicely.
Photos to follow tomorrow (Sunday)!

Well I guess it's a bit too far along for you to take up this idea, but I keep thinking about picking one up from the LHS, and bashing it into a P36 Hawk. Maybe I could really kill myself and use Monokote chrome
covering on it?

I would use foil tape myself

Ugh -- my home internet connection has been down since Saturday afternoon. Thank God for free Wi-Fi at Taco Bell!
Pictures are below -- decals are fiberglassed (I'll bet you can't tell)!!!

What an amazing maiden! What an amazing airplane! Hand launch was perfect -- straight and level, with a gentle climb at 50% throttle. Increased throttle for easy climbout. She required NO trim!
Climbed to three mistakes high, and rolled -- WOW! What a roll rate!
Tried a loop -- way too easy!
Tried an intentional stall -- her nose gently dropped and she leveled out!
Tried another loop at about 20% throttle -- she made it over the top, gently stalled, and came out of the loop like a champ!
Climbed back to three mistakes high, and flew inverted -- again it was too easy!
Flew around for another 5 or 6 minutes and my 10 minute timer alarm went off. Approached dead stick and flared just before touchdown -- she shot up in the air as if she was under power! Aborted that landing, and tried again with less flare -- perfect landing!
Went back to work for the afternoon, and flew again after work with the same results. This GWS P-40 is a keeper!
Actually, it reminds me a great deal of my eFlite P-47 Thunderbolt. To be honest, I sold her after about 45 flights because she was not "exciting" enough for me -- she flew like a trainer instead of a warbird. That being said, the GWS P-40 would be a great first warbird for anyone who is thinking of getting into World War II fighters.

Funny you say that.. I've had 3 gws p40's all with the same results.. Using a 2200 zippy pack with a 35 30 1100 outrunner turnigy..
That plane (all three) have a NASTY tendency to tip stall if bringing it in with little ( or especially NO power...)))
They glide a little but I'll tell you what, this is my second gws FW-190 cause I've enjoyed them sssoo much and they fly and track much nicer then the p40 EVER did... I have a similiar flight pack in the 190 as I do the P40 too..
+++ my 40 isn't waited down with "glass" either....
Strange findings you've found for sure...

I finally got started on my GWS P-40 Build. I just finished painting the cockpit. The rest of the plane will be covered with the WOW models hard covering. It is a has a two part system and paints on like epoxy giving the model a smooth beautiful finish The deep detail lines on the model will be slightly filled in giving the panels a more realistic look. I am going with the stick motor mounting system. I will post pictures as I progress.
I want to come up with a true to life color-scheme but not an ordinary one. Any Ideas....

I am pretty good with an airbrush and enjoy a challenge...
