Default Oklahoma Dust Bowl Fly In 2 September 10,11,12 2010. Help Needed!

I want to invite everyone to a flyin. It is set for October 24th and 25th.
The details are still being worked out. But there will be several events. Combat included. Possibly spot landing and a balloon bust. More to come. And suggestions welcome!
While it is mainly an electric even all forms of model flight are welcome!
Funds raised are to be donated to the Mid America chapter of the MS Society to benefit MS research.

Dust Bowl Fly in 2009!

October 24th and 25th 2009 Holdenville Oklahoma Airport
There will be a lot to do including but not limited to:

* Combat
* Spot Landing
* Loop and Land
* CLIMB 'N' GLIDE: Pilot is given 20 seconds after takeoff to climb high as possible. Landing must be on the runway in a designated target zone. ESCs must be set to brake mode. Longest time to land wins. Bonus points are awarded the closer the plane is to the center of the target.

* Table Top Touch N Go: Pilot is given 3 minutes to make 3 touch and go landings on a 4' x 8' supported landing platform. At least two wheels must touch down on the tabletop. If the pilot does not make 3 touches in the three minutes a zero score is given.

* BALLOON BUST: 4 balloons are suspended with crepe paper at alternating heights in a straight line down the runway. Heights are; 4, 8, 12, and 16 feet. Pilot has to break at least two balloons in that row of four to score the minimum amount of points. More than two in a row will increase points. (Revert to event #6 if winds dictate)

* LIMBO: Use a thirty foot crepe paper ribbon strung between two poles. Planes fly under crepe paper streamer, cuts or ground touches disqualify. Streamer is lowered 1' after each round until only one plane qualifies. Points are awarded for 1, 2, and 3rd place finishes. Ties are broken by repeating the process with inverted flights.

* Snowman Loop Race: 3 poles are set up 50 feet apart in a straight line. The object is to weave between the poles as quickly as possible and as slow as possible. 2 laps are performed as quickly and as slowly as possible. Not making the entire loop or touching the ground disqualifies. Points are awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, fastest and slowest times.

Notes:

The same plane must be used in all events unless the plane is damaged beyond safe use. The CD will make the determination if a spare plane may be used.

There will also be BBQ ( drool!) A bake sale,Soft drinks and water available.
There will be items for sale or trade supplied by the attendees.
Prizes will be awarded for the events. And there will be raffles and drawings and a 50/50 drawing. With the proceeds to be donated to MS research to help find a cure!

We will post a shcedule as it is finalized. There will be free time available for open flying too.
We will have a sim running for those who have never flown to try there hand. And also models with a buddy box to try your luck in the air!

We will have a complete ready to fly electric trainer to give away. This will be done by raffle on the last day of the event.

More details will be posted as they are worked out!

Glad to see you posting the flyin over here on Wattflyer. Most of us in Oklahoma know about it but perhaps not all.

Looking forward to Holdenville.

1987 that limbo contest you mentioned over on rcgroups sounds like a fun one for the wing I'm flying now. I was flying limbo on some soccer goals a few weeks ago with a tv F22, though I did lose it to a goal post.

Limbo could be good. Also two forms of a balloon bust come to mind. One would be a balloon on the end of some sort of stick. Popping it with the plane. The other would be along the same lines but with the balloon released and the pilot would have to chase it down to pop it. I think the first would be more practical though. It would be tough to hit a loose balloon!

There is another event I have heard of but not seen. You take off and do a loop and land. The person who can repeat that the most times in say a minute wins.

And of course we need a spot landing contest too.

man those ballons and landings would put me out of the competition. might be able to bust a ballon on a crepe paper streamer, maybe. but spot landings! LOL I have trouble just landing within 40 ft of where I"m standing. Not really that bad but if theres any wind, I can be all over the field.

I just had a meeting with the airport manager. He is happy to give me written permission for the fly in. And also said that if people want to camp there they can.

So that is great news! He was enthusiastic and said what ever we want to do is fine.

Great news 1987, glad to hear it. hey, I don't know if anyone mentioned it to you. But, the unclub is getting together for a WattFlyersOverOklahoma event this Saturday in Keifer at the bald Eagles field. Some of us have been trying to stir up some interest in some of the slimer flyers out there for not only electric flight but cambat also. if you or anyone else is interested look over on the unclub thread or tulsa e combat.

Default List of things needed.

I have been working on a list of things needed. I will keep adding to it as new things come to mind or pop up.
Anyone wanting to help contact me and I will forward you the list.
Needless to say money to help with costs and warm bodies to help man the event are biggies!
But there is lots more.

Steve and I went over to do a survey of the airport. We will be flying from the taxiway. We also paced off we are planning on 8 pilot stations 10 feet apart and a 10 foot by 10 foot box behind each pilot station for any work or preparation the model needs. then another 10 foot by 10 foot square behind that for display of models not being flown at the time. The the spectator area behind that.

Does this sound reasonable?

I don't think I would do the second box for display. Usually each pilot will set in a given spot behind the flight line and keep all his models and stuff there. Then they move up to the spot behind the pilot station to get ready to fly. Usually they will only bring one model to the flight line.

The idea is to have a line of models displayed in front of the spectator area but where pilots can keep an eye on the planes. The display area would run the length of the area and the planes would not have to be moved.

That ought to work. I would guess that there will be canopies that will be lined up along the flight line on the grass.

I am trying to dig some up. Not easy on a non exsistant budget!
On the bright side I know for sure I will have at2 least full size aircraft. a 1941 Funk, An Ercoupe and should be a 1955 Tripacer. The last is probable. But not locked in yet.

You don't need to worry about canopies. If pilots want to have a canopy, they will bring their own.

That is good about the airplanes, but will they be parked anywhere on the ramp. We have our flyin at the airport at Wilburton, and we make sure there are no airplanes on the ramp so there is no chance of an full size airplane being damaged.
