Default Wattflyers Over Oklahoma Fly in - WOOF 2008

The Wattheads in Oklahoma have been nice enough to invite us Missouri folk over to fly several times now. We always have a great time when ever we're there.

Hopper's Neighbor and I made the treck over to Tulsa last weekend and flew with Smokejohnson, Rabbitcreekok, Lieutenant Loughead, gregore2992 and a few other guys that fly with them. After we flew for the morning and we determined it was sufficiently hot (100 Degrees - not heat index) several of us went ot the Tulsa Glue Dobbers Heatwave in the Heartland event they hold each year. Funny, we ran in to another Watthead, fr0g_D, at the local Arbys. He just happened to be eating at the same place.

After flying for the morning, we thought it would be a good idea to have a fall get together in Tulsa for all of us and any other Watthead or associates that can join us. For some reason I was chosen to start the thread on it and I don't even live in Oklahoma.

So, Rabbitcreek (Jim) came up with WOOF 2008 for the name of the fly in. Wattflyers Over Oklahoma Fly in 2008. We are planning on meeting Saturday, September the 20th for an all day fun fly. This is an informal get together just to have fun. There are no special events planned other than to fly and shoot the breeze with fellow flyers. Although for some reason I can see Smokejohnson (James) wanting to get out our combat foamies again to try for a third time at cutting my streamer. Good luck with that James!

Anyone that can attend is invited. There are no fees and no requirements other than to follow normal safety guidelines. As we get closer, we'll post more info on it. Feel free to post here, ask questions, tell us we're idiots or what ever.

Look forward to seeing whoever can make it there.

I finally have my FlyCamOne2 from Hobby Lobby, and it's working like a charm... I'll be VERY interested to see if I can capture some video frames of your airplanes in the air, during this event.

I'll see if I can get some good video of the flying field, and post it here, to try to entice more people to come fly with us.

Also -- as I remember it, Tom is the one who approached the Tulsa guys about this event -- it's his idea, so he gets to start the thread. What's wrong with that logic?

For those who are interested in why we would run an event like this -- we had a pretty good turnout last weekend...

I forget exactly how many pilots were there, but I counted 6 airplanes in the air at one point.

OK, we need some of you WattFlyers to consider coming to the WOOF 2008 event in Tulsa. If you aren't near but you know someone who is, let em know.

It is really nice to meet other WattFlyers and talk RC.

Just to give you guys an idea of what kind of event we are talking about, I thought I would post a few pictures of a NORMAL Saturday at our flying field. (Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the first WOOF event, earlier this month.)

Also, here is a link to some video of a P-40 maiden at our flying field.

We don't require AMA membership, and we don't have "landing fees" (or any other fees, or dues) -- we are an unofficial, yet organized group of park flyers, who have formed an unofficial club (we call ourselves the "Unclub").

Please -- feel free to join us any time (not only for WOOF). We are out there almost every weekend, and I'm usually out there between 7 and 8 AM, every weekday (I try to fly there before going to work every day).

The Unclub / WOOF is located here.

I flew in the rain the last two days... I flew my Stryker, inverted, to protect the electronics from the falling rain...

...it worked like a charm.

I will have my P-40, Wasp, and combat plane for sure. As long as the maiden goes well I will have my 1MORStick and my Hobby Lobby Yak. The Stick is almost ready but the Yak is still in the box so I guess I better get busy if I want them flying and the bugs worked out by the time for WOOF.

LOL -- I consider my Stryker to be my "beater airplane". (Hence, I'm willing to fly it in the rain!) In any event, the transmitter that came with the (RTF) Stryker is not something that I worry about getting a little wet... I just kept my back to the wind, and held the transmitter close to my body, to block the rain.

Here's what I plan to bring to WOOF 2008:
  • GWS ME-109 (sporting her new "100 kills Oak Leaves" decal, commerating her 119th flight)
  • GWS P-51 Mustang
  • ParkZone Stryker
  • Sureflite P-51 Mustang (50" wingspan, electric conversion)
  • Profile P-38 (though I might sell this one, and bring a new GWS P-38 instead)
  • Profile WildCat (a trainer for my son)
I'm really looking forward to this event! I just realized it's only five and a half weeks away!

Sheesh -- you and me both. Although, it shouldn't be as hot as it was last time (middle of summer).

It would be nice to use the pavement area we were all lined up on last time for a runway. I'd bring my Hurricane, P-47 and PT-19 if we could fly off pavement. Other than that, I'll bring my F/A-18, Zero, P-40 and a couple of flat foamies.
