Thumbs up Thanksgiving WOOF - Wattflyers Over Oklahoma Fly In, November 28, 2008

Hey gang! It is now official, my vacation plans are settled and I will again be in Tulsa over the Thanksgiving Holiday, so I figured I would throw out the idea of another day-after-turkey fly in. Tom has requested I not bring cold weather again this year; I will do what I can.

Anyway, I was hoping to do some flying with my OK/MO buddies at the Tulsa Unclub Field again, and figured starting a thread was a good idea. (It sure will beat all the PM's from last year.....)

Count me in. (unless it's 10 degrees out.)

Perhaps we should look into an EZ up with panels and a propane heater?

Actually, I have one, and just got one side panel for it from Walmart (on clearance for $20; It's a Univ of ILL panel, but I like them so no biggie). If we need it, I am sure I can put it in the pop up and bring it; if anyone has panels, we can 3-side enclose it if it is chilly if you want.

Heck, I even have a table I might be able to bring, a 6 foot resin table that folds in half.

Are we going to plan for an all-day event, then? Maybe even a grill and some burgers/dogs type thing? It's real early, so we can plan a nice event.

That is great, Kev. I knew when I told you about the low gas prices, you would come around.

My EZ up has side panels and I might be able to scrounge up a propane heater if someone up there has a bottle. If I haul all that stuff, I won't have any space for any airplanes.

I know, Tom will say all I need is space for my Ember, since that is all I flew the last time.

Heck Jim, you could fly the Ember in the EZ up.

Now that is an idea. It would be warm. But, the weather is going to be really nice for Thanksgiving WOOF.

Hopefully this will shape up to be a great day! I told the wife to expect me to be gone all day. Since we will be there a week, shouldn't pose a problem.

In fact, if we can, James, maybe we can fly before Friday. We should be there the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Just leave it in pieces Kev. That's how it's going to end up anyway.

Jim,

Do you have 3 panels for your EZ up, or just one? And is it a 10X10 straight legs, or angled? If it is straight like mine, I can bring mine too and we can set them side-by-side for a larger canopy area......

My wife suggested we grill burgers or something.....dang, sometimes she has some bang-up good ideas.....interestingly, my club is having a Chilly Chilli Fun Fly.....just happens to be the Sunday before Thanksgiving.....argh....oh well....

WOOF!

I will be there (as always), but I have to pick up my Aunt at the airport around noon... She always flys in the day after Thanksgiving -- and you guys always decide to fly the day after Thanksgiving -- giving me an eternal conflict... :o

How does twice equate to "always"......

Your aunt needs to learn to fly and join us.

He did.....but he kept her locked in the truck.....

I mean, how cruel is that, to go play with your toys and make her stay in the truck and read novels? What a cad.

It has the straight legs and I have at least three panels, I think. I have not even unwrapped everything yet. I think it has a little awning doodad. I have to replace a bent scissor in the top and it will be good to go.

Umm, I'll rephrase my statement -- my aunt ALWAYS comes to Tulsa the day after Thanksgiving. So far, you guys have scheduled to fly the day after Thanksgiving, so there's a conflict. :o

Yes! I did! She likes reading her book, and I wanted her to see the new KarglUSA P-38 prototype fly (the maiden was that day, and the P-38 flew without any paint scheme). My aunt said seeing the P-38 in the air brought back childhood memories of her father's REAL P-38's. That was my goal.

LOL -- I didn't lock her in the truck!!! She was HIDING in the truck, because it was darned cold, and she's from south Texas (where it's warm all the time). She was not conditioned for that cold temperature, and was trying to stay out of the wind. :o

...not to mention that she (like most women) has absolutely no interest in RC... :o

Hey guys -- let's start thinking about getting a combat airplane for EVERYONE at the event. I'd love to see 25 airplanes with streamers, in the air, at the same time!

So, what's it going to take? How do we organize this?
