Not necessarilly. I have two triple century patches (A triple century is a three hundred mile bicycle ride completed within a 24 hour time limit). That doesn't mean I had or want to give up my double century, or any other special patches I had gotten in previous events.

I display all my "achievement" patches on my patch jacket, regardless of how much they may have been surpassed by later successes. Each one represents a goal accomplished.

Well, I think a vertical run that exceeded the speed limits would qualify just fine. We are being rather loose as far as guide lines and rules and qualifications.

I personally think that, if you can get a radar or some other reading and show "proof" of some sort, it would be just fine

It will be dificult to dopplar a glider because the dopplar software works by measuring the change in 'appearant' frequency of the sound waves coming off the prop. It assumes that the prop will be turning at a constant RPM and thus generating a constant frequency sound that only seems to change as the plane approaches and departs the camera.

Since your plane will have no fixed frequency source, that wont work very well.

Still, there are air speed indicators/readers like the Eagle Tree and HowFast and radar guns

I say go for it!

After all, I was planning on using a slow stick with a cinder block attached and tossing it off a cliff. No one complained about THAT

Larry

P.S. Still looking for a cliff hanging camera man.....

P.S. Dont tell anyone, but Ive figured out how Im going to get one of those awards! Im going to take an old dead slow stick, tie a cement block to it and toss it off a cliff and dopplar it on the way down. All I have to do is get some one to run the camera......
Ha, Ha, Ha, that would be a great video!!!

Hi Tips No problem Its fun to do, I thought it would be Neet to see who is pushing there planes over 100mph, and it helps to give other fliers some information as how to do it too, Now i just need to get my plane to do 100mph Its a learning process, and has its rewards when you finally cross that 100mph mark, and it will leave you with a big Grin, from Ear to Ear take care, Chellie

Liquidity said that he would be happy to post a doppler reading of your plane, as there is no doppler reading on the other link, I am waiting for that, and then i will post your speed, Take care, Chellie

Here is my 121mph Lynx pass.
http://www.donsrc.com/Lynxon4S.wmv

Mode: Hobby Lobby Lynx
Motor: DonsRC Wicked 2700
Prop: 4.1 x 4.1 APC
ESC: Pentum 40
Lipo: 4S 2100 15C

Just for reference for power requirements, power goes with the speed cubed.

100 mph, power factor = 1
125 mph, power factor = 1.953
150 mph, power factor = 3.375
175 mph, power factor = 5.359
200 mph, power factor = 8

So if your model needs 300 watts to go 100 mph, you will need 1.953*300 = need 585.9 watts to go 125mph.

.... and to get to 200 with the same plane you would need 2400 watts!

...or a much slipperier plane

That kind of puts it in perspective how much more dificult it is to go faster and faster and...

Thanks Don!

That is why I think the speed achievement goals should be somewhat close like, 100, 125, 150, etc, as the power needed goes way up between each one.

I added the doppler to my post. What was cool that day was that we had a visit by the local police and he got out of his car smiling and was holding his radar gun and said something along the lines of "These things are so cool. I love when you guys come here to fly." Then started radar gunning everyone who flew by. So I also got an official 121 mph from the City of Sagamore Township Police Department!

One other note Id like to see from the speeders - how many watts did it take to achieve your speed?

I think it will be interesting to see the differences as the numbers go up.

I just received a new motor in the mail. I placed it on my lynx and got some readings. I have almost 1hp going through the Lynx. 1hp!!! Well it was 711W, but that is only 35W away.

I am not expecting this motor to last more than 1 speed run since I am pushing it WAY beyond its limits. I will get someone to film it. Hopefully they will have the radar gun at the field on Saturday.
