Default Cumulus Kit/Plans

Hi All,

I am trying to find a kit preferably or at least plans for the Cumulus. I swiped this photo of a beautiful model from: http://groups.msn.com/cmac/cmacvintageevent1.msnw

It doesn't need to to be that big, but I bet since these are pretty easy on the power requirements, an AXI 2826-10 or 12 would do nicely.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Default Cumulus Kit?

Hi Franny, the Cumulus is kitted in 4 sizes by Klarichkits;
http://klarichkits.com/pricelist.doc
It takes a minute to download. I've never tried these kits, maybe other readers can provide some recommendations. They have short kits, here's the sizes and prices;
49" W.S. $42.00
79" W.S. $64.00
96" W.S. $71.00
106" W.S. $80.00
Another way to get to "Klarich" is through Freeflightmodels.com
Good Luck!

Thanks Ron!

Their website is a bit of a mess and they don't have a picture... I emaild them to see if they have any more info.

Their site is only accessable through Internet Explorer and not Mozilla Firefox...

That 79" sounds great! If I can work it out with them, I'll try to get one. The kit would be preferable to just plans for me.

Thanks again for the great research!

Default Cumulas Plans

There are several Cumulas free flight models. The two popular
ones are the Ben Shereshaw late 1930s model and the Carl Goldberg
1949 Iop Flite model. I have the Goldberg plans and AMA Plans
Service has most of them in several sizes. Cecil

Default Cumuli?

Hi Cecil, Welcome to Wattflyer! Thanks for the clarification on the various "Cumulus" (Cumuli?) models, I guessed from Franny's photo that she wanted the Shereshaw version and these were the links I posted. I also found plans for an electric conversion from "Kiona" publishing (Quiet Flyer) that I believe may have come from the Model Builder magazine originally.
The Shereshaw version is a real beauty, that round fuselage and wing shape really stand out! The Goldberg version reminds me of the later FAI Power (F1C) Free Flight models with the enclosed motor blending into a pylon/wing mount. Very advanced for it's time.
Old Timers are the First "Park Flyers"!

Hi Franny.
Glad you like my website

If you dont have any joy regarding kits I have the plans which I can supply you copies of.
(Same plans the models on the website were built from)

Here is another similar model by Allan (who built the Cumulus) - the Lancer.

Thanks for the link Mark! That is some fabulous workmanship. I did find a kit version at: http://www.klarichkits.com/ They do have the 79" in stock. I did order plans from: http://kionapublishing.com/catalog/p...roducts_id=128 but the stab and fin are both flat (I don't think they should be, but I could be wrong) and there are other changes I believe made to lighten for electric conversion. I'm going to see if I can get a little more info on the kit.

Thanks!

Franny - just checked the plan I have - both the tailplane & fin have symetrical section.
It is a 48" 1/2A Texaco version so should be correctly scaled from the original (one would hope)

Cool... Sounds like you have a good copy. I emailed Klarich Kits and asked about the stab. We'll see what they come back with. I'd hate to have to re-add all this stuff back in.

Thanks,

Franny

I just got a reply... The stab is symetrical and the wing is undercambered. Sounds like a winner!

Any progress with this venture? I am currently looking for plans for a Goldberg Cumulus, something larger than 50" but under 2m.

Default Goldberg Top Flite Cumulus Plans

Pat, as I mentioned in an above post, I have these plans.
The model is about 54 "ws by memory. Let me know what
size you want and I can get you a copy, Cecil
PS: this is not the Cumulus Franny is talking about. This is
the pylon cowled motor free flight model. I built one in
1950 when it first came out

Hi ShaverR6,

I did find a couple kits here: http://www.klarichkits.com/

Their site loads REALLY slowly, but down their catalogue and scan down for the Cumulus. He has a few different sizes. I've never ordered anything from him so I don't know just what you get. I'm the adventurous type so I will probably order something from them eventually. Maybe next Fall?

Hi ShaverR6,

I did find this from the Klarich site:
CUMULUS 54 425 GOLDBERG 1949 62.00

So that is a 54" span Goldberg Cumulus... Just another option... Oh, it is in the Nostalgia section...

Hello Mark

Do you have the plans for the 106" version? I would love to buy a copy if you don't mind going through the trouble on my behalf.

Best Regards

Joshua

Hi Josh, which one are you talking about?

If the Ben Shereshaw Cumulus I only have the 48" one and you would need to enlarge it.

Default Cumulus

Hello Mark

Thanks for the quick reply. I am looking for the Shereshaw Cumulus. What will it cost to get a copy of the 48" plan? I can easily enlarge it.

Best Regards

Joshua

Hi All,

I know it has been a long time, but I am finally building the Cumulus... and at 96" span. You can check out my progress here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1053860

It is the Klarich short kit and seems to be going together well. There are a few problems with inconsistencies in the plans, but no show stoppers.

Thanks,

Franny
