Default Charging Lipo's with Swallow 2

I have a 3D lightweight Helicopter that has an inbuilt 4.5 Volt Lipo Batt. It came with a 4.5 Volt 600mah Charger that I ditched for the swallow 2 Charger. The problem being that the swallow 2 does not have a 4.5 volt setting for LiPo's - It is either 3.7 or 7.4. It will only work with 3.7 setting and I have set the MAmps to 600 (Like the original Charger). It does not seem to fly for as long with the swallow charger??? Is there something I am doing wrong? Or should I go back to the old charger?

You should go back to your old charger. The Swallow charger I have also does not select anything other than 3,7 - 7,4 or 11,1. Your battery is not getting it's full charge.

Why did I spend $139.00 Aus on the swallow! You would think it be more flexible - you can change the volts on the other BATT Types, but not the Lipo's? Why?

Hi Again

I wouldn't write off that Swallow just yet. I use mine to charge all my Rx packs, my Tx at the field when needed, my 12volt field battery and all my 3 cell lipo's.
Mine has been used so much that my display is starting to go south on me.

4.5v LiPo?
Are you sure? Never heard of such a thing.
Every LiPo you can buy in a hobby shop is 3.7v (4.2v charged), which is what the Swallow is designed for.

The Manual actually says 4.2 Volt Lipo - So maybe they mean charged? The strange this was that when I was using the swallow to charge it, it didn't last for nearly as long? What do you think?

The Swallow is a well known brand and I've never heard of any with issues (I have 2 myself). Do the flight times increase when you go back to the original charger? Not much else I can think of...

IF I go back to the swallow what do you think the best settings would be? If I use the 3.7volt what should the Amps be? before I used 500ma? The original charger says 600ma.

3.7v is the correct voltage, as this will charge the battery to 4.2v, which is what it most likely is (dont try any higher setting than this).
As for the current, you want to set it to the same as what the batteries capacity is. Does the battery say anything on it? It most likely would be 600mah or thereabouts if thats what the old charger was set to.

Is the Swallow 2 sold anywhere in the US? At under $100.00 for an AC charger, it's an excellent deal if the specs hold up to the ad and comments I've read. Some of those savings vanish when 38.00 in shipping to the US is added though. -Rod-
