Default 2.4 gHz Radio and 2.4 gHz Video Link...

Hello all,

I am thinking about getting in to a 2.4 ghz radio system and was wondering if anyone had any insight into issues between running that radio system along with a 2.4 ghz Video downlink. One would think that with the Spread spectrum 2.4 ghz that there might not be a conflict, but I have heard rumblings that there would be...

I am not opposed to changing over to a 900 mhz video donwlink, but would rather spend the extra money for new TX and RX on other things.

Lastly, I have huge range with my current 72 mhz futaba and was wondering how short range the 2.4 ghz stuff becomes. I usually shoot from the 200 - 500 foot range, but at times will climb to 800.

Pardon my ignorance with the 2.4 stuff.

Thanks in advance,

James

Thanks for the reply. Any idea where I might be able to find some of the documented cases?

RCG has alot in the AP forum as well as the FPV forum. Do a forum search there under interference.

Thanks Dave,

Took a look around and found what I needed.

Are you running a 2.4 Ghz system? I have done a few AP jobs in tighter areas lately and want to get a bit more security. The cost of the 900 Mhz stuff is pretty low and don't have a problem changing out.

900 mhz. But I have found it easy enough to aim where I need to. If you are shooting from the side it makes it extremely difficult to aim.

Ok Thanks. I meant your radio system though? Which one are you running?

....me too. Like stated the 2.4 radio and video don't play nice. The video TX saturates the 2.4 radio RX the further you fly away even though it seems to be ok during range testing (sometimes). There's alway's a rc pilot who gets the two working but later they post about a lock out and crash..... I've tried just about everything as far as radio freqs and video and I still prefer what I first started with, DX7 and 900mhz 500 mw video gear gives the most solid link IMO.

Thanks for the advice. I will likely go that route.

Do you have any range issues with the 2.4 ghz Radio?

The only issues is no matter what radio freq you use (FM,AM,2.4) expect less range when adding wireless video so if you get 1-1/2 miles expect it to be cut to 1-1/4. A good video TX above 300 mw of power will have more range then your radio which is good so if you lose radio link you can at less see where your plane went down .
