Spektrum AR6000 receivers
Do you guys think that Spektrum will be dropping the price on the AR6000 receivers? Now that the DX-7 radio and the other selection of Spektrum receivers is out shouldn't there be a price break on the first generation AR6000s? Most technology follows this profile. I am looking to buy some receivers but don't want to jump in if there is going to be a price break. Heck, even SONY just dropped the price on the Playstation 3 a hundred bucks. Waiting and hoping.

Having bought my DX6 just a few months ago. I have seen that Futaba have come out with their 6EXP 2.4 ghz Full range system (with TX charger) and only about £20 more than the DX6. I feel a bit gutted.

I don't think the Futaba comes with the servos or transmitter battery for that price though.
No worries you made a good decision with the DX6, like you I bought mie a few months ago. I did a bunch of research and I believe its the best and cheapest way to go. And the range is A LOT farther then what it says in the manual. I think they low balled it because they weren't quit sure because it was so new.
The only receiver you can use is the AR6000. I just bought a used one off of RCERS. Post in the wanted forum and you will be able to find them. Alot of people will be getting ride of their AR6000 receivers and use the other ones for their DX7's

I haven't found any good deals on the AR 6000 either.

Since the AR6000 is the only Rx compatible with the DX6 it is unlikely to drop in price regardless of how many DSM2 Rx Spektrum release. So long as there is a large community of DX6 users out there getting new planes and needing new Rx, the market for AR6000 will remain strong and there will be little incentive to drop the price.
Just be thankful you are in the US, the local distributor here had them at AUD$120 (US$100) until a few weeks ago. Now they are down to AUD$89 (US$75)

I don't mean to cheese a lot of DX6 users off but this is yet another reason why I'd never recommend a DX6 at this point in time. It was a great radio at the time and will be supported for a long while but the price difference for new isn't enough to come close to justify it over the DX7.

UncleBob - I mostly agree with you, but the DX7 is a lot more Tx than many people need. When folks are considering moving from a sub-$100 4ch FM radio the leap to a DX7 is a pretty far way to go in both price and sophistication. However if the choice is $200 for DX6+AR6000+servos vs $300 for DX7+AR6100+servos and the $100 is affordable then it is a no-brainer.

In the UK the difference in price of a DX6 and Dx7 is over £100. That is if you can find one.
I am happy with my DX6. As far as range, with fully charged batteries on the TX and RX I done 100 paces (100 yards ?) with the button in and still had control.

So buy it from the US or HK, it's 2.4GHz and legal all over the world
I know you guys get hit with ferocious import duties but it might still work out. D6 and DX7 packages cost about the same here as they would ordering from the US and paying shipping to Australia but for Rx I buy from the US and still save $20 to $30 each.

The biggest issue for me with the DX6 is that it's using an obsoleted OTA protocol. That makes it about as non-future proof as you can get with something that's still that new. Factor that in with the other DX7 advantages and it doesn't seem worth it. I'd go cheap FM, used DX6 or DX7 and up at this moment in time.

They are aimed at different markets. DX6/AR6000 is intended for the electric park flyer crowd, while the DX7 is aimed more for the big boys, or those with more disposable cash.
I'd be surprised if they killed the DX6 any time soon.

It's not a matter of actually discontinuing, but all future new gear is not compatible. That sucks. Want to use that nifty new AR6300 nano RX in your indoor flyer with your DX6? Tough. No can do.
That's what I mean. Even the 72 MHz stuff didn't have that happen so much.

The DX6 was first in the line of 2.4gig. I expect they needed to see what the market was like for this new mode. From what I read it was a big hit. As I had only returned to the hobby and all I had at the time was RTF models and the radio gear as you know was not so wonderfull. I was going to get some 35meg (What is legal and most used in the UK). I read about the Spektrum and I thought that would suit my needs for now, which it does.
Just before I bought the DX6, there was a DX7 advertised local for £200. as new hardly used. Of course when I called it had gone.

I just hope that the DX6 compatibility "issue" was a one time (or more realistically very infrequent) event and this is not going to be a pattern for Spektrum/JR. I see the explosion of DSM2 gear, including the JR branded stuff, as a good sign that indeed they are going to run with this for a long time.
Let's hope.
No, I don't see any likelihood of circling back, I think the DX6 is a dead branch on the corporate tree.
