Default Our SEFF 2010 Adventure.

Well it's that time of year again! The event of events, the Show of Shows, The R/C Mecca, or Annual Pilgrimage... there are so many ways to describe SEFF and then again there is no describing until you've been here. Whatever you call it, it's the one event I look forward to more every year than the year before. Planning began for this year on our way home last year. Well you get the point by now I hope so here we go.

We left Yorktown Virginia Friday afternoon at about 5:00 pm, a bit later than we had wanted to but it's all good. We were trucking along pretty good until just about Emporia when we blew out the right front trailer tire, and when I say blew out, I mean blew out. It looked like a nascar blowout down the backstretch at Talladega, rubber flying everywhere. Once we got that changed out we were back on the road. We were going to stop in Lumberton and eat dinner with Phil's sis but we got way too far behind for that so we stopped in Emporia at a 5 Guys and chowed down to some great grub.

Back on the road with no further issue and made it to Florence, refuled and Phil took over driving, I went to sleep in the backseat and woke up in Augusta as we were tooling on town the road. This having a driving partner stuff is awesome! Got on into Greensboro and sacked out at the Flying J til about 0800. Hit the road again and made our Grocery run, more fuel for the truck and our bodies and back on the road. Pulled in to Hodges at about 12:00 to a Beautiful sun filled warm afternoon.

First on the spot to greet us was Servo, the shop Dog, of course. After the obligatory belly rubbing we pulled into our spot and start getting all set up. Chris "CK" and the Ritewing gang are here as is Diggs, Bill Bullock, Dave E, Hodgehound a few other cats all getting an early jump on the good times.

Mason has already had the Stryker in the air and we are getting pretty settled in now.

Stay tuned for more updates from RC heaven! Good times are a comin'!

loaded and ready to go

You know, if Bill keeps posting things like this. I just might be sick Monday and Tuesday. My SEFF vacation might be starting a few days early.

Probably not, wishfull thinking though.

Ok, I know this is going to be a real dumb question. Why is there a full scale plane landing at SEFF? Does Mac use the place as a full scale runway? I know he has a full scale Cub that he flies there. See, I told you it was a dumb question..

We will be flying RC on the fullscale runway. I fly off of a fullscale runway at my house also. They are just grass, but I think Mac's is nicer than most. Nice shots, Bill.

yeah folks fly full scales in quite a bit. The strip will be closed to full scale starting Monday. Keep in mind that we are very early. The event really does not start until Thursday.

but, RV's have been rolling in ever since we arrived.

Airhead and Andrew,
Never ever call in sick, the boss wont believe it anyway. Try this
"Mister boss",
"yes?"
"I'm feelin waaaay to good to come into work today, you understand, right?"
"Sure, take the next few days off"
Much more believeable and he will respect you for your honesty

Now, gotta to go check on my unemployment status.
CC
Have fun guys!!

Well first the bad news.... The shoestring is no more... It went down and went down hard due to what I believe to be one of the biggest bone head moves I have ever made. I honestly believe I forgot to plug up the ailerons. I almost had it back around and landed but she rolled over on her back and went in nose first. Total loss.

But other than that another terrific day. Did some racing with Click and his one if his hot rod Ritewings. I was keeping up for sure if not pulling on him a little. He estimated my speed based on our sided to side running at about 105mph. He has clocked his wing at 115 and we were almost dead even. Too bad we didn't get any video to qualify for the 100mph club...

We had another terrific day weather wise. Perfect flying conditions. Did some formation flying with Eric and his Hyperion Sampson with my Waco. That was way cool and look to do more of that tomorrow.

got some really cool video with my Telemaster and my HD camcorder. It takes an awful long time to upload video from here but we'll give it a shot soon.

The B-29 lives. MAc worked on it all day and finally made the first test flight right at sunset.

(oh, and I will have another Shoestring!)

Great photos Bill,
Sorry to hear about your shoestring. Looks like she came in very hard.. We all make those errors occasionally. Even though you make then very seldom... You'll be back in the air in no time..
