Thanks! I haven't built the P-51 yet but hope to start on it soon. There is a huge thread (157 pages at last count) on RCG about it. Some of the examples there are incredible. It's a very light plane when built stock and flies very scale but doesn't seem to have a lot of bad habits like tip stalling that other versions do. I know rclark's son built one of the nicest looking examples I saw. Maybe he'll post a pic?

That's cool. My son is really into it with me and we do just about everyhting together flying, and workshop wise.

Big difference is it all still comes out of 1 wallet! (he's only 12)

Hide your eyes then Bill!

HobbyZone Firebird Commander II - My first plane. Still in flyable condition, but currently gathering dust. Flies on the stock brushed 400 with a 6-cell NiMH.

ParkZone P-51 Mustang - It had survived many crashes, and had flown many sorties. Recently had a bad hand launch and crunched the nose "again", and I just have no desire to repair it. Recently retired after salvaging the electronics. Flew on the stock brushed 480 motor and gearbox, and 3S 2100 lipo.

E-Flite Cessna 182 - I liked this plane at first, but soon discovered how brittle the foam and plastics were. Finally broke it to the point of not wanting to fix. Retired. Flew on a Hobby-Lobby 400XT with a Castle T-Bird 18 ESC and an APC 8X6SF, 3S 1320 lipo.

GWS Cargotrans Quad (C-130) - Finished this off as an EC-130H "Compass Call" which I flew on as a crewmember when I was in the Air Force. Currently sitting without electronics, but the airframe is still flyable. Flew stock on EDP-50s with a 2S 1320 lipo.

GWS Slow Stick - I currently have 2 of these. One has a full wing, the other has the wing tips clipped off. Both flyable (one has no electronics). Flies on a Hacker A20-30M with a Hacker X-12 Pro ESC and an APC 8X6SF, 3S 1000-2100 lipo.

Hobby-Lobby Super Cub - The first one wound up in the drink. I am currently working on scratching another one from the plans, using some of the materials I salvaged from the first one.

GWS Skytrain (DC-3/C-47) - Won this at our club's Slow Stick funfly last year. Built it in the DC-3 config. After the 2nd crash I finally figured out that this doesn't like to fly inverted. The second crash damaged the fuse beyond repair. Retired. Flew on the stock brushed 300H and 2S lipo.

GWS Tiger Moth 400 - Flyable, but currently without electronics.

GWS Zero - I am currently building kit #2. The first one flew excellent after doing the wing incidence mod (raised the trailing edge 1/8"). This plane only crashed once due to a "dumb thumbs" incident. Not repairable, so I saved what I could and retired it. #2 is still in the build process.

GWS Corsair - Started off with landing gear, then finally took them off and belly land. Flies great on the 400XT and a 3S 1320 lipo.

GWS A-10 - Currently in need of repair. Flew on the GWS BLM005a inrunners in EDF-55s, but was only using 3S 2100 lipo. I will rebuild it and use 4S for more speed.

AirCADkits RJ-55 - This resembles the RJ-700 regional jet, the small commercial passenger plane. This is still under construction. I acquired this kit partially built from a fellow flyer. This will fly on GWS EDF-55s with the GWS BLM005a inrunners and 4S lipo. Will be trimmed out in US Airways livery.

Pat Tritle's DC-6B - Currently in the box to be built. Will run on GWS IPS-50's and 2S lipo. Not sure yet what livery I will do.

GWS P-38 - I have 2 of these, neither of which are in flying condition, but both can be repaired. So far it's been underpowered with the motors I've used, although it did fly fairly well. But of course I need more speed! I will probably dump some Scorpion outrunners in one of them and keep the other for spare parts.

GWS Me-109 - In flying condition, but no electronics currently. I need to fix the horizontal stab as it hangs low on one side.

GWS P-51 - Under construction. Attempting to put GWS retracts in it that I will use only for take-off, and will then belly land (don't trust these to hold up under any rough landings). I plan to use the 400XT and T-Bird 18.

GWS Spitfire - Still in the box waiting to be built. Again, 400XT and T-bird 18.

Stevens SQuiRT 400 - Flyable, but no electronics installed. Flew well on a brushed 400 with a 3S 1320 lipo.

Stevens G-400X (Stella) - Flyable, but no electronics. Flew on a TowerPro 2409-12T and a 3S 2100 lipo.

Steve Shumate T-38 depron pusher - Finally finished this up last week and maidened this past weekend. Flying a Little Screamers Parkjet motor with a T-bird 18 and an APC 7X5, 3S 2100 lipo. It was underpowered on the maiden and suffered a little damage. I think my lipo is sagging, and I have others to try on the next flight.

YAP F-14 depron profile pusher - Built from free plans in the Scratchbuilt Foamies section. Flies well on a 400XT and a 3S 1000 lipo.

Mig-29 profile depron pusher by tomhe - Built from plans in the Scratchbuilt Foamies section. Very nice flyer on a Scorpion 2205-36 with an APC 7X5 and a 3S 1000 lipo.

GWS AT-6 - Flies nicely, but I'm over propping the TowerPro 2408-21. I will be dropping a more powerful Scorpion in this soon.

GWS P-40 - Flies well on a Scorpion 2215-18 and a GWS 10X6X3 prop. But it's begging for retracts (I'm getting tired of having warbirds with fixed gear). Currently under repairs from a "lightpole incident".

Stingray by blueskyrc.com - Currently flying #2. This is a simple delta depron pusher. Very acrobatic and a blast to fly. Currently flying on a Feigao 12mm inrunner, GWS 3020 prop and a 3S 500 lipo. That's actually my plane in the link.

Strange Bird SB-28 from blueskyrc.com - This is a very nice balsa forward swept pusher (kinda looks like a BOP). Flies on a UH 20mm inrunner and an APC 4.2X2. Awesome vertical, speedy and very stable. Trim is done in a Blue Angles theme. Currently flyable.

Hobby-Lobby Cessna Skymaster - This is a hand-me-down from a fellow flyer. He flew it (barely) on the stock twin brushed 400 setup. I am going to remove those and replace with a pair of Scorpions. Under repairs.

GWS Pico Stick - This is the stick version that I bought for my 5-yr old daughter Kayla to fly on the buddy box. The wing folded on the last flight and I will replace the bamboo sticks with CF rod. Flies on the stock IPS-50 and a 2S 1320. Under repairs.

ParkZone Spitfire - Got a good 5 months out of this flying on the stock brushed 480 and a 3S 2100 lipo. It finally folded a wing and plowed in. Too much damage to repair. Salvaged the electronics and retired.

Stevens Adrenaline Rush - I actually built this from scratch based on the instructions. Flies on a Medusa 5300kv 12mm inrunner and a 3S 500 lipo. Man this thing is fast!

GWS Cargotrans Quad EDF - This is the quad EDF version of the "C-130". I will probably kit bash this into a quasi C-17. Still in the box.

GWS PT-17 - Just got delivered Monday from Caliber Hobby. It was on sale for $17.33 and I couldn't pass it up!

Guillow's B-17 - Currently under construction. I plan to use the GWS IPS-50s in it on 2S lipo. Lots of head scratching on this one.

Guillow's B-29 - Got this off eBay as they are currently out of production. Same as the B-17 on the setup, and it is also currently under construction.

Extra 300 depron build - This was done by the same guy (BlueSkyRC) that has the Stingray and SB28 mentioned above. This is in the build stage and is not currently available for sale. It will get the trusty 400XT as well.

AirHogs AeroAce - I bought two of these, one for me and one for my daughter. They have been sitting idle for a while.

Wow, I didn't realize just how bad my addiction was, and I've only been doing this for 2 years! Can you tell I like GWS?

Rick, how do you like the Ultimate with the Hacker? I was going to put my 1022KV Park 480 in mine, but may reserve that for the Mini UltraStick (and the Hacker is actually cheaper now). What prop/ESC are you running? Any balance issues with the lighter Hacker?

Jeff:

I really like the Hacker motor. I am running a Hacker A20 ESC although I am normally partial to Castle Creations products. I had no CG problems at all but had most of my gear pretty far forward. You can see my profile and models on RCUniverse (search for Arkitexas under members and view "my models"). I also added carbon fiber tape along each side of the fuse to remove a warp and stiffen it. I am running an APC 10 x 4.7 SF prop with a spinner. PM me if you have questions. I don't check the forum every day so there can be a time lag for answers.

Rick

New to this site but very active in flying around Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler/Tempe/Scottsdale AZ area.

Current models and state:
SDM Cub-Had been flying with stock 380 motor but now putting in a BL outrunner. Bought plane/motor only on Ebay and added own servos, esc and lipo. Flies OK on stock motor but want a little more. UPDATE-Converted to BL and on maiden flt-wing snapped! No more Cub...

World models P-51 Miss America EP. Under completion with BL motor instead of geared 400.

Scorpio Dornier 328-Under construction. Bought one with wheel mods made to it and almost finished.

Simprop Dornier 328-I love this plane and can't wait to have it in the air. Will be run on brushless or Wattage 400's

E-star AT-802 Air Tractor-my pride and joy. Just need to put the radio/motor in. I love tankers. Hope to build an S-2 and P-3 to complete the current line-up used in the business as well as an OV-10

OV-1 Bird Dog. Not sure what kit but it is BIG! Going to make it Electric but needs some TLC first.

GWS E-starter-In the box-nuff said!

Clancy Lazy Bee-my oldest plane. I used this one and another one for a promotion with Red Baron Pizza years ago and kept this one ready to fly. Want to conver to BL. needs some rudder repair.

Flyzone Ventura-Great little powered glider. Old faithful, back in the air.

Simprop Sukhoi SU-31 (They spell it Suchoi on the box!) Neat little foamy still in the box. Probably will get it flying real soon.

Some large trainer. Want to conver to Electric as well.

That's all for now.

I am relatively new to the hobby, and so for Christmas I received a Bellanca Decathalon 480 from Hobby-Lobby.com. It is a decent plane, with a decent build, but it lacks a few things, like a good motor, well-balanced rudder control and the servos are not very good at all. I guess it is easy to fly since I got it up about 300 feet on its maiden voyage. Unfortunately, on approach for landing, a freak gust of wind on a relatively calm day took it, and threw it inverted for a new cartwheel landing.

Good thing it is foam and easily repairable with some tape and silicon glue.

I am currently waiting for the delivery of a Aerocraft Skimmer 600 to build out from balsa.

Scratch 1 Freebird from my list. I almost lost the canard too. Bad flying day I guess.

No, a bad flying day is when you crash 5 planes in the same day with a DX7. Happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago. We suspect a loose antenna wire in the TX. Sent it back to Horizon and now it works fine. They never did say anything was wrong with it, but they replaced the antenna anyway. Hmmm. But he still had 5 crashed models.

No, a bad day of flying is when you wipe out your entire line on the ground with a rogue Spitfire before they ever get to fly.
