Default Anyone have a video of a plane with ips gearbox running a feigao 12mm 4100kv?

I would really like to see what kind of power it has. I have a pico-s stick and a guy wants to trade me a 12mm feigao 4100kv for my ammo 28-45-2700kv. I cant seem to find a video of that motor in an ips gearbox. Any help? Should i make the trade? Currently my pico-s is running the A gearbox. I had my ip[s motor burn up on me andf the replacement has to run on full throttle for some reason. I do have the prop on the correct way. Everything on the plane is the same, i think i just got a junk ips motor.

How come you dont just go buy another IPS Brushed motor? or do you want to use a BL system? shop at HC buy a cheap small outruner.

I want to go brushless. I have this ammo here doing nothing and would like more power. I would also like a motor that i could use in other planes too. I just dont want to be stuck with a motor that i wont like or cannot be used. I just want to get a motor that works good and doesnt have to be at full throttle to stay airborn. I would like to get a 3d foamie in the future and use the same motor for that platform and be able to have the speed i need for that. Thats why i wanted to see a video. As of now, i dont have the funds for another motor, the wife said no after i bought this ammo. I would like to get rid of this ammo before anything else. Im on a limited income and with 3 girls under the age of 5 its kinda hard to get by each month. I dont need to make costly mistakes. Im sure its easy to just say, buy the diy motor. But i can barely get any time to myself let alone time to put together a motor. If i had the money i would get the blue wonder motor from hobbyking, i dont have the cash right now. Milk, diapers, gas, doctor appts for my herniated disc, school clothes etc. Im tapped out.So i really want to make a trade for soemthing that is going to work and that i will be extremely happy with. And something that isnt going to cost me more money for a new gearbox that is needed etc. When i have the money i will buy a motor from hobbyking, when i have the time i will make a motor from gobrushless. But right now i just want to fly without worrying that this motor is going to burn up on me and that i dont have a replacement(or the funds for a replacement). Flying this plane is my only free time, i enjoy it and want to continue it.

No video however I ran one one a Mini IFO and it was almost exactly the same power as the IPS twin. I was running a 10X4.7 prop.2S TP Prolite 730 and about 12 min flights.

On second thought I was running a 2S LiPoly not a 3S. The spur gear is a 82T. I believe ration is 5.9:1.

Just to give you an idea of the power they have, I've ran the little short can Feigao 12mm with IPS-A on 3s, 7060 GWS SF prop, in a heavy 7oz Guillows SE5A. It has ample power.

The motor you're proposing on a pico stick would be very powerful.

If you want ballistic performance, use a 5866kv 12mm Feigao in an IPS-A box on 3s, with 6x4 GWS HD prop.

As for the comments on "I think I got a junk IPS motor", it happens often. I've used a lot of these motors and they are really hit-and-miss. I've had ones burn up in one flight, replace with another of the same winding and fly forever.

I have flown sport type models up to 13 ounces with a 3s powered Feigoa, with around 350 sq inch wings. Most fly well in the 8-11 ounce range on 2 and 3s packs. The motors pull up to 4 amps which is twice that the brushed unit can handle. Good little motors but be carefull of the wires where they enter the can, they are fragile there, and if you break one you have to be a "watch maker" to repair it, very small Also watch your prop size because the motor, if it draws too much current can get hot enough to melt the plastic gearbox, unless you are getting the metal box.

Happy Flying

Thanks for the info guys. I will upgrade to a metal gearbox in the future. I plane on running a 1047 and 947 props on the pico-s litestick with A gearing. I will mostly use 7.4v cellphone lipos. I have 640mah up to 3200mahs. I do have one pack of 3cell. But i can also make one of these 2s into a 3. I am still looking on what would be the best gearing to use. The lhs near me has the different motor pinions and plastic gears. The plastic gears are for the 300 size gearbox by gws but the center hole for the gearshaft is 3mm, same as the small ips. I know they have two types of metal gear pinions that fit on two types of gearing. You have to match the metal gear with the plastic or else they wont mesh.

Type Spur Gear Pinion Gear Gear Ratio
S2 M0.4 x 56T M0.4 x 16T 56T / 16T= 3.5
S1 M0.4 x 58T M0.4 x 14T 58T / 14T= 4.14
A M0.3 x 82T M0.3 x 14T 82T / 14T= 5.86
B M0.3 x 84T M0.4 x 12T 84T / 12T= 5.0
C M0.3 x 86T M0.3 x 10T 86T / 10T= 8.6
D M0.3 x 87T M0.3 x 9T 87T / 9T= 9.66
E M0.3 x 107T M0.3 x 10T 107T / 10T= 10.7
F M0.3 x 106T M0.3 x 9T 106T / 9T= 11.77

There is an obvious mistake = B-ratio is 84/12 = 7.0:1, and the gears are M03, not MO4 - only S1 and S2 use MO4.

That outfit will provide lots of power for a light stik. Might rip the wings off of it so be cautious. Your props should be good with the A gear, thats the ratio I have always used also. Should only need 2S for the little stik also to keep it light. I have also used a 8X6 on some faster foamies with the A set up. I have also cut down a 9X7 to make a 8X7 used on a little foam 26inch Mustang, but you have to keep the wide open runs short in duration or it warms up fast!!!!!

If you like this size of planes another great little motor outfit is the Westport motors. They are made here in the USA and are available in three winds 17t--20t and 25t. Wisper quiet little outrunners and very good quality. Mine have many hours of trouble free flying on them

Thanks Bob for the info. For some reason my litestick will not fly with a light battery. I tried one of those xpv/stormlauncher toy lipos on it and the plane wanted to hover verticle. Like it was tail heavy. I did put a wooden dowel along the front of the rear stabilizer to keep it flat since it bows up at the tips, kinda u shaped from looking at the plane from the back. With my heavier cell phone batteries which are 7.4 3200mah li-ions it flies fine. And flies for an hour or more. I wish i had a scale to find out the planes weight now, but i dont. I want to get a formosa. Anyone had a chance to fly one with the ips gearbox A version running a feigao? Will it fly the formosa with authority?

Sounds like your stik is tail heavy with the lipos. I think the balance point is about 2 inches back from the LE with the battery installed isnt it
The Formosa is a great flying plane but goes where you point it and isnt forgiving at all.
You will really have to built a lite one to power it with a IPS unit. Dont think it would be a easy task. Most need a minimum of 100 watts to fly decent Ill bet.....
The 13 ounce plane I powered with IPS Feigoa was a sorta scale Curtis Robin with a lot of wing area and flew but thats about all. Just putted around like the real plane did........

Good Luck

Thanks, im not sure i will even get the feigao, i sent my motor to him and he is screwing around. Some guy wanted to trade me and i told him i already traded some guy, but for some reason he is stalling. One thing led to another and the guy posted it in the trading forum http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=921759 Its a big screwed up mess. I wish the guy would respond and tell me if he is going to send my what i asked for. He will be getting my ammo today or tomorrow. Thee is no telling if i will ever get the feigao and wing he promised.
