Default Slow stick wing options

I've come to chat to the guys in the know about my next wing for my SS....used for AP of course. My first wing was stock but I added ailerons and strengthened it considerably with CF rods and good ol' packing tape. I'm happy with the wing, it doesn't flutter and can handle the weight of my camera, 3 cell and 480 motor no sweat...but it sucks in the wind.

I'm planning to build another wing, similar to stock but with less dihedral for the wind. My plane is strictly an AP platform and I want to float around nice and slow with the motor off while shooting...has anyone put a glider wing on a SS? I can't limit myself to only flying when there is hardly any wind either.

Looking forward to hearing some options and input!!
Thank you.

Yep. alot of people have tried several different types of wings. I like the Magpie AP wing from Mountain Models. The glider wings work but are awkward on the ground during takoff and landing due to the great length.

I have been using a wing I made from blue-cor foam for over 2 years.

Here is one build thread on how to build this wing

AP Stick How to:

You can also build this wing with a little Dihedral.
Here is a little info on this in this thread.

Slow Stick Airfoil Wing

The second type will fly more like the Stock SS wing and slower. But with out the drag and floating you get on a windy day.
The thinner airfoil will glide faster and handle more wind, just depends on how windy a day you want to fly in.

The first wing I built I covered with packing tape from Fast-pack.com I now use econ-kote or low temp tower-kote. The wing in the picture is the same wing that was covered with tape in 2005. I recovered it when I added flaps to do the Crow setup to drop/slow the plane on landing in tight areas.

I made my SS winds from 2 sets. Just cut the ends off of one set then add a new piece to the ends.

I made mine 80" in length. I supported them with small CF tubes and stranded packing tape.
