Default Scratch Built Cessna 150 40 inch.

I really wanted to build a Cessna 150 with a 35-45 inch wing and I could not find a kit or plans. P.Tritle designed a nice Cessna 150 but was never kitted so I had to design my own. This is a sport scale at 40 inch that I had laser cut. The build is straight forward using white wood glue. I am trying to keep her at 12 ounces ready to fly, that should be lighter than Eflites Cessna 150. I will be using a Rimfire 300 brushless motor. Since this is a sport build I am going to make it look like my 1970s Cox Cessna 150. I am using white Econokote with red and black Econokote trim that is ironed on. I know Econokote is not the lightest covering but I like the look compared to lighter iron on coverings. Also it goes on at a lower temp so the lite structures wont warp. The fuselage is covered with a total of 2 pieces, I don't like seams.

Beautiful work! Did you design in CAD? Who did your laser cutting?

Very impressive. Design looks heavily influenced by Trittle. How's the UAW?

I drew it up in Coreldraw and sent the file to National balsa for laser cutting. I am shooting for a flying weight of 12oz. I really wanted to build Tritles Cessna 150 but he sold the plans to Dumas who now own the rights but never produced the kit. So mine is drawn up to his typical designs but a little beefier. His came in at 8oz and mine will be 12.

I know it has been awhile, but I finally finished my Cessna 150 and she is ready for flight with weight at 13.5 oz balanced and loaded.

It has been a busy few months at work and home but I was able to get some pictures of my Cessna 150 flying this morning. She flew right off the building board with no real trimming and I would say flies pretty good. All and all a fun build.

Very nice and just the right size. Have to wonder why the 150 is so overlooked. Haven't been many GOOD kits in this size range.

Are you going to make the cut files/plans available? If so what did National Balsa charge for the kit cut?
