Who's got Flying Weather?
#7328

Had a bit of nice weather today and put a couple of batteries through my new flying wing. I wish it had been more, but I had a ton of stuff that had to be done today. By the time I was free, it was getting dark.
But at least me knees both work!
Get better, sir!

Nothing like a slow flyer. They are really fun to fly in light winds. Nice vertical landing with no rollout.
I once parked a Cessna 152 in the air, with a strong headwind. I had no forward motion at all and could have backed up if I had dropped some flaps. My dad once took of in a J3 Cub, flew to the end of the runway, throttled back and backed down the runway and landed again. Of course there was a strong wind then also.
Keep up the good work with the scratch building. The "Slowly" looks great.

Heya Mark,
Nice Slowly build and flight.
I like Benny Goodman too,I grew up listing to him and all the Big Bands.
Haven't been flying too much lately, for one reason or the other.
I am building a scratch built zeek though and will be maidening if wind cooperates.

Been off to a rocky start this year. Jan- March was filled with windy days. Got a few flights in. We probably had one week out of 4 in April when it was raining or the wind was unbearable. May was much better. At least 2 good weeks of flying out of 4.
And now..... We have the beginning of the North Texas summer. 39C/103F 15-20mph Southerly (Crosswind) breeze. Looks like we'll be in the high 90's F for the foreseeable future. Of course, with the heat and humidity, we have to deal with Density Altitude. Motors become less efficient for sure. Sigh.
We just deal with it.

It was 100+ today but at least there wasn't any wind. I took my scratch-built KFm glider out to one of my favorite parks and caught some scary thermals. I almost never manage to catch a thermal so I kinda panicked and one point and put her into a spin until I'd dropped to a more ... comfortable altitude.

I don't know about 'in time.' I've been at this for 8 years and can count the number of decent thermals I've caught on the fingers of one hand. I think it's at least partly due to the constant high gusty winds we have here. It's impossible to see the subtler signs of a thermal and, when there are thermals around, they're racing downwind.

Latvia should be in mid 20's C .... but we are hitting highs of 31 .. 33C ... and humidity to curl your toes !!
Wind is a welcome item to try and keep some cool. If wind dies and get to flight site ... its awful standing out in it !

Tell me about it. The last few weeks have been in the plus 40C range consistently. Just oppressive. That plus Density Altitude of + 3,000 ft. Hard on esc's. Ground elevation here is 607 ft above sea level.

Wow, the last 3days have been nice fly mornings. I have flown a couple of times each morning. Its been quite awhile since i had decent flying weather.
Had a couple of repairs to do though.

Finally the rain came ... boy did it come in !! Reckon we had a months worth in one day. Better go and bale out one of my boats that's now flooded !!
Now we have wind ... so at least its helping to make the temperature more sufferable.
I have my ME109 to maiden ... gear to test ... I have to travel for a week .. so I hope when I get back things will be better to go flying !!
