Micro Yak18" is Born
#1

After building and flying the mini yak from www.2dogrc.com I was hooked on building a small full 3mm epp yak style plane.
I took a bunch of pictures of the yak from 2dogrc and draged them into google sketchup.
After some trial and error here is what I came up with.
I call it the Microyak18"
I will post a complete parts list later.
The plane came in a only 1.3oz AUW with the battery pack
I used hot glue to bulid all the foam parts, and some foam safe CA to attach the carbon.
I think I can even save a little more weight if I cut the parts out different as i built the prototype in sections and use a little more glue as I was testing different methods.
The plane is small enough that you could cut the whole wing and middle section as one piece.
I built it using 1.3mm and some 1mm carbon braces and one piece of 3mm x 000.1 flat for the wing spar.

Here is a complete parts list of whats on the plane
1 x GS 3G Motor And ESC Combo $59.00
This micro motor is the updated motor for the Raptor GS plane. The motor weighs a mere 3.1 grams with the wires. These also come with a 7A ESC presoldered to it which adds 2.5g of weight!
These motors were hand picked for this project and provide the best power for the small weight. We recommend a 2 cell 110 mAh battery to run with this. The receiver comes with a micro JST connector.
1 x EP5030 HD Propeller $1.20 each
1 x 7.4V 100 mAh 15C Li-Poly Battery $14.00
3 x Blue Arrow 2.5 gr Micro Servo, JST servos cost $14 each
* Torque: 2.78oz
* Speed: 0.13 sec/60°
* Plug: JST/1.25mm
* Wire Length: 80mm(3.15in)/11x0.08/OD0.6
* Weight: 3.21g(0.11oz) including wire,and screw
* Size: 19.6mmx8.5mmx21.9mm (0.77inx0.33inx0.86in)
AR6300 DSM2 Nanolite 6-Channel Receiver
When it comes to lightweight 3D foamies and indoor slow flyers, every ounce you can eliminate means better performance and longer flight times. Weighing in at a scant 2 grams, Spektrums AR6300 with 2.4GHz DSM2 technology is the perfect receiver for these types of applications. $49.99

I finished my build from 3mm epp foam and got the maiden done. My plane flies great, but does not have enough power to hover.
I used a 3 gram motor from Hobby City.
Maybe I'll try a 5 gram motor for a little more power.
At any rate, the plane does really fly nicely and is just a blast.
Very easy build, but a challenge to keep weight down.
