Thanks to the help from you guys, you helped me put together a GWS Slow Stick build 9 years ago. I emigrated from UK to Australia 6 years ago and now want to build another one.
I kept the following:
I am beginning to put together another shopping list. I am not sure if things have changed much in 6 years in regards to technology, are there better motors worth looking at now? Looks like GWS are still going (just) and can get one shipped to Australia. Was also contemplating the ParkZone Radian (want another slow flyer and aimed at beginners).
My Problem:

Was hoping to avoid replacing motor/esc just because I could then skip soldering on the relevant brass connectors/deans clips, but perhaps that has changed as well? Prefer to have minimal build time on getting a slow stick up and running.
So, looking for advice on what you would do? Buy a new motor (please recommend) or does anyone know if I can find replacement parts. Its the #1 piece that I imagine will be the decider. Thanks! Looking forward to flying again
I kept the following:
- TowerPro BM2409-18T + ESC
- Charger
- 3S 20c 11.1V/1700mAh LiPo battery
- AR6100e Spektrum receiver

My Problem:

- I am missing #1 and cant find a replacement on hobbyking/tower hobbies
- I am missing #2 and rhe replacement on HC is no longer around.
- I am missing #3 TH have a pack of 6 replacements for #3, happy to have a better recommendation that fits Slow Stick (10x10mm I believe?)

Use a new motor. Anything 400-480 sized. There is nothing wrong with the old one, but a new mount is a waste of money IMHO.
Slow stick will fly well with just about any motor. I've ran mine on 4 cells with over 400 watts before, and it was a blast. I prefer about a 250w motor and lower of say 900-1100kv and a 2200mah battery. General fly times can exceed 300 mins. You'll probably want to brace or upgrade the landing gear though. I've flown on as low as 40w with a small battery. It is a very versatile air frame.
Welcome back, and ask if you need anything.

#1 - you can replace with a pole mount ... which will bolt to any of the 6 mounts you have ...
such as :

or similar (just check internal diameter of 'hole') ...

Some of the guys at my club have switched to this motor (or one of the other KV versions of it) because it comes with a stick mount for smaller planes.

It is getting hard to find the old bell stick mounts any more.

- How does the motor compare to the TP I currently have? Just as powerful?
- I assume that would fit snugly on the out of the box 'fuselage' on the stock SS
- Does it negate the need for the #3 plastic part?
- Can I run it with the existing ESC I have and a 3S1P 20C 11.1v/1700mAh LiPo?

Oh wow. I remember when the 2409's were all the rage. Occasionally you see them rolling across ebay but not often. I would just go to another motor. Emax offers a few options as well as stick mounts.

Thanks guys.
The SS fuselage is 10mmx10mm.
I believe the power of my motor is 1000kV, and I used to fly it with a
My order is going to be on TowerHobbies as they stock the original GWS Slow Stick. Can I get some help with choice of motor from TH?
Could not spot an eMax on TH.

If you are going to order from USA. I would suggest this. Many of us here use this company. They also give propeller data on the majority of their motors. I like this place alot.

Unless something major has changed recently, heads up does not ship outside us/Canada.
If tower pro carries the slow stick, order the one that comes with the brushless motor. It will come with a new motor mount and about a 130w motor. This should be pretty close to what you had anyways.

Yep. Forgot about that.
The motor combo tower offers would make that thing into a rocket on 3 cells at 300 watts.

Here's a motor and mount that will ship from UK but you may want to verify the rate and carrier with them.
