Kits and Plans; The Links Page
#1

I have to thank our new Wattflyer member, Mike Taylor, for inspiring me to start this thread; He posted a couple of new sites for "Stick + Tissue" kits, and when I clicked on the pages, it became obvious that the "Builders" kit suppliers' list was becoming too long and varied to just add on to the "Links" Sticky at the top.
So, we'll start from "Scratch" (pun intended!) and begin a Links page for any KIT manufacturers and plan sources. There are already category-specific lists under "Warbirds". "Old Timers" and so on, but this will be for any type of flying model. No ARF's. RTF's, RTC's. OK?

Hello Spitace, Thanks for the kind words, hope the links help. I'm holding off on making the list a Sticky, we've been having some software problems with my "Builders Links" sticky, it keeps disappearing! I split it into half, A-L and M-Z, now the first half is gone. I'm re-doing it and apparently the glitch is being worked on.
If you think you might be needing any of links in the future, it may be a good idea to copy them to disc or file, just in case!

Fantastic list of links--thanks guys.
Couple new ones for you.
Pat Trittles dozens of scale short kits are no longer sold at Manzano, though they still do the laser work:
http://www.patscustom-models.com/index.html
Also, Mountainmodels is still very much in existence, and I think it might be more correct to say it was formally laserarts :
http://mountainmodels.com/
These guys sell a beauty of a motorized glider I have had my eye on for awhile
http://www.polecataero.com/products/guppy
Finally, here's a small operation that has a few modern, laser cut offerings:

I thought it became Laser Arts after it was sold to Mr. Eberwein though it does come up as Moutain Models still . Which is fine because most people remember it as Mountain Models . It is on the list above as Laser Arts

And how about Balsa USAhttp://www.balsausa.com/flash/index.html

Hello Steve + John,
Apparently the MM/LA company owns both URLs, since either one will get you to the same site. If you do a search for either name, same thing. So I changed "Formerly" to "Also" and added the MM link.
John, thanks for the BalsaUSA link, I've added it to both pages.

I believe that everyone has seem this one so far. It is my Ace Littlest Stik, or LaStick, or with my minor modifications "Der Kleinste Stock" I built this following the plans on that website. About to the bottom of the page, embedded in text you will find the plans. Or just search LaStick. Or check my profile for the plans link...

I found a free plans site. Mostly plane's, some boats.

Hello Huffy, Welcome to Wattflyer!
Sorry to say but I can't add that one to the links. Wattflyer has a policy that we can't add links that require registration to view the content. Although Aerofred seems Ok in this respect, there are sites that will use the registration to send spam and unwanted material.
I have added a note to your post explaining this.
Thanks for your interest,
Ron

Hi Guys
Just a quick question on plans.. Does anybody on here use any CAD programs for drawing plans? I have Autocad, but wondered if there were any more suitable bits of software about. Have so many ideas i want to try, and autocad is very slow for this kind of design

A lot of builders use CAD, especially if they need to do layers for stringers and such. But if all you're doing is a simply foamy or something, some people use things like Adobe Illustrator, Google Sketchup, etc.

I found this site that offers free plans that can be down loaded. You need to have auto cad to open the plans up it is one draw back but have some nice builds. http://www.woodworkersworkshop.com/r...412&offset=125 this should be in the middle of the pageclick on it will show you the planes to down load
