Mini Ultra Stick, Not Happy With My Setup
#26

At least you have a set up you are happy with now
. Sometimes I have a run of bad luck where it seems everything I touch turns to ****. It just makes the moments that go right all that much sweeter.
I'm not sure what you have on hand or have available locally but here is a different way of mounting the 2409-12 that doesn't use the nuts. But you need the firewall flange and a plastic mount.

Hey thanks for the tip on the motor mount, it's a nice guide you've written! However the front of the MUS is just a flat plywood plate firewall with holes drilled in it for the motor bolts. I don't really know how I would attach the stick mount to the plane without major surgery.
#29

Why don't you get some bolts with ny-lock nuts and mount your motor with them? They don't have to be 3mm unless you just want to use those bolts. I use 4/40 on mine with ny-lock nuts and never had any problems with them coming off, or you could use 2/56. What ever you have on hand that will go through the hole should work. No need to use 2 or 3mm just because that is what came with the plane. The only time I use anything in mm is when I have to run a screw right into the motor it self. Anything that is tapped you are pretty much bound to that unless you want to re-tap the hole to something else. Anything that is not tapped and using a nut, you can use whatever you can find that fits the hole, or ream to hole out to fit something else. There's lots a ways to do it. Just use your imagination.

Yeah, point taken. The holes in the mount are for M2 bolts, but I was already thinking of drilling them out to fit M3. It hugely increases my options in terms of what I can buy and where I can buy it. For example I can't find nylock nuts for M2 at all but I can for M3.
Also, the M2 bolts look very thin, they are probably fine, but I'd feel safer with M3s.

My MUS is a flying pig too....weighing in a 33oz. I fly the Park 480 and it flys well at 1/2 throttle with an 11x7e prop. Its a beast at 3/4 throttle for aerobatics.....full throttle is only used when I want to see it take off in about 2 feet and go out of sight straight up. I fly cheap HC 2100 3s batteries and get 8-10min with my flying style. I can slow thw plane down to a crawl and maintain altitude at 1/3 throttle with my quad flaps deployed in crow config.
I know you can save some money on cheaper motors(I tried an Alpha 480...woked well till I bent the shaft ) but the Park 480 is so perfect for this plane.

I liked the Mini, but it was just to small. I had to go to the 25E size to be happy with it. I love it now and wouldn't go back for the world, but I did have fun with the Mini. I am just getting to old to keep up with the small ones and needed something that is bigger and easier to see. I really liked mine on a 200W motor though. I never weighed mine with the KD motor and 2200mAh battery, but it was light. Flew great and would do almost anything I wanted except go straight up forever. It would pull a nice BIG loop though, just not forever. Hope you enjoy yours and get it flying the way you want it to.

When it's all working, this will be the plane where I learned (the hard way) how to select the right power system for a model. I always intended it to be my 2nd trainer so I suppose I should think of it as a bonus lesson.
I really wish I had bought the 25E now, it would be much better suited to the A123 battery packs. I agonised for weeks over the decision between the MUS and the 25E too, so it's not like I hadn't considered it.
At the time I went with the MUS because it was a fair bit cheaper overall to get it RTF and also I was living in a 2 bedroom apartment that was very pressed for space so I decided a smaller plane would be more practical.
As it happens I am now living in a 4 bedroom house and have a whole room just for my hobbies, but that wasn't even on the cards at the time I was researching my purchase just 6 months ago.

If you want to make the loops tighter don't forget that you can increase the elevator throws quite a bit. The same for ailerons if you want a tighter rolls. The recommended low and high rates are fairly conservative. I have my low rates set just about at the recommended high rates. And remember this is not a 3d plane.

Which one, the 25E or the mini? They both fly fine, but the 25E is easier to see and flies better in the wind. Both of them fly about the same and both can be made to fly better by increasing the throws. I have my CG so it almost flies hands off inverted and I love it. I think the 25E is the best of the two mostly because it flies better in the wind and I can see it better, but I don't care much for the color scheme and am going to recover it soon. It's OK, just get tired of seeing the same thing all the time. There are three others that have either the mini or the 25E in my club and I want to be a little different from them just to be different.

I don't know if you have one or want one, but a friend of mine said it flies MUCH better with the 480 on it. Just something about the 450 that he didn't like. Other then that, it should fly great.

My MUS alone with a few other aircraft of mine.

I currentl use an APC12X8E prop on the MUS. Hacker A30-16M / 1060 Kv 260 watts, 29amps. / 6,500 RPMs. It is extremely aerobatic. After beefing up / reapiring a few areas weight is now 32.2 oz. and it has right at 500 flights on it.

I have an SHP too. Along with a 55" SHP,55" kat,SR ,Slick and 40" Edge. I think the Slick would be great on A123....it can carry extra weight and has a wide body.

I pulled out my Mini Ultra Stick this morning and had a blast with it over at the abandoned sports park area.
I am running an Eflite Park 400 outrunner (920Kv) swinging a 10 * 4.7 prop, 20 Amp ESC (eflite), and a Thunder Power 3cell 1320mah battery.
Watt meter tested last night for WOT of around 12 Amps, 130 Watts.
Mine weighs little under 21 oz.
First flight was 2.5 minutes. Had itchy leg from a fire ant bite
had to bring her down. Checked battery and it was only at 11.90 volts. And it wasn't at full charge to begin with. Figure I can get 25 minutes easily out of it.
Power-wise, I would like to put an Eflite 480 on it to give it more vertical and more speed for some little tricks. But honestly, I could live with the less expensive 20A esc and Park 400 for what it can do. As long as weight is under 22oz of course.
Just my two cents

Hi Benovisoff..
So I would still probably be under my ESC limit.. or maybe throw a 25Amp on it?
I have an Eflite 480 swinging an 11*7 on my Slow Stick (believe it or not)
It;s an Aerial Photo platform and weighs in at 32 oz or so.
Thing hauls and climbs like super fast...

Sorry to detract from M.U.S but it is noteworthy

nice vid. its weird, my ss is like 25 oz with a 480 and a 10X7, yet flies like a stock ezstar. anyways, that esc can do I think it was along the lines of 25 burst. A smart thing to do would be to switch the SS and mus electronis, because it is supposed to be a Slowstick. Changing the electronics between those is smart, but I would be safe and do the 25amp esc. The max I ever pulled with a 480 was 23 amps with an 11X6! A sure fire thing under those limits without changing any esc is the eflite 450 and 10X7 will probably do 16 amps. I would use the 480, 22A esc, 10X7 prop, and an eflite 1800mah 3s lipo. The 1300mah batt will burn up, and will go bad.

I just acquired another Eflite Park 480 Outrunner (1020Kv model).
Just added it to my Mini Ultra Stick this evening.
With a 11*4.7 prop (fully charged Thunder Power Extreme V2 2200 Mah 3 cell battery) I am getting 31 Amp WOT and 312 WATTS.
INSANE!

dmarko.....I run an 11x7e on my 480... pulls 28A and 304watts.....the motor can take that no problem. Unlimited vertical is a good thing
