Hello,
I like & fly stock HBFP.
I'd like to try BL setup with DD tail (CN12RXC) on HBFP (rest stock). Goal is more power with maximum flight time.
Please advise which BL motor and ESC to choose (& seller):
1. ARC-20-27-80 - 4500Kv inrunner : (out of stock. Any other sellers ?)
2. Internal runner brushless motor 4200KV (one reported failure)
3. OTHER ? Please specify.
Should I use HDX Brushless Adaptor ? Is there any other adaptor ?
What Lipo will be best for this setup (power+Flight time) ? 2S or 3S ? mAh ?
I would prefer to use my existing 2S 800/850mAh Lipos.
Please also post your BL setup.
Thank You.

Have you used 3S for an extended period on your HBFP? I picked up an E-Flite 3-in-1 used because it is designed for 3S use out of the box. I've read in HBFP megathreads on other forums that over time, using 3S burns out the 4-in-1. Definitely do your research as that's not a cheap part to replace if it fries.

Here's round 3 of the HBFP megathread over at RCG --> http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=826446 .
This will keep you reading for some time. There are tons of links throughout the thread as well. Somewhere after page 500 people start getting in deep with some of the replacement brushed motors and testing with 3S packs. There are also other threads that have spawned from this main thread. One is strictly about hopped up / modded models so that one would be good for you (I have no link, but it's in the same forum as the above link).

Basically from what I've done with the hbfp going bl was more of a learning experience in a separates setup than a killer mod.
I did the inrunner 3900kv/cc10 esc and went through tail motos, 3s was the worst. Tried ourunner 4500kv on 2S and not much better, seemed to puff packs, but it may have been their time anyways. Basicaly there just isn't much room for impovement in that tail motor heli to really put the bl to good use. Maybe I could of gone a smaller motor and had a 20 minute hover around heli, but it didn't seem worth it.
What I ended up with in my FP category was a stock hbfp with a scale body for yard putzing and show and tell.(Much safer around kids) Then also a stock framed, slowmax w/fuse, m24 blades and dd tail all on a 3 in 1 with 2s-900 batts. That setup turned out to be the lightest, tightest setup for that frame and still have a tail strong enough to turn in fff. IMHO.
Now stepping up to a compy or Guruz, then its BL all the way.

BL HBFP flew great for a while !
But now it has run into problems. Tail is spinning intermittently - slower/faster. Earlier DD tail was working fine with BL motor. I tried another motor (stock tail) but same problem.
I removed both servo connections, but same problem.
Couple of times, tail motor continued to rotate at high rpm even on reducing throttle to zero. Main motor (BL) acts fine.
(I'm running BL motor with 9T pinion and DD tail, 2S Lipo, stock frame HBFP.)
Please advise.
