Slow Stick Goodies.

As promised here is the first of the Beta goodies sent to me by Dave Thacker at www.radicalrc.com.
First up is the adjustable Motor mount. This is adjustable for both right and down thrust correction. First pic is with no down correction and second pic is with maximum allowable down correction. As you can see it's a bunch. Next pic is the top of the mount and right thrust correction is set with various thickness laser cut washers which are furnished.
Next item is the control horns. The holes fit the furnished Slow Stick control rods. A snap to install and horn locks in place. A little CA and they are there forever. Next pics are the V-tail mount. I will be using 1-1/2" more than 1/2 the furnished stab as I want extra control surface. Normally the stab is just cut in two and both halves make up the V-Tail. Will build the Nose Wheel/tail wheel Mount next. Stay tuned. New LG mount is also on the way. BTW it looks like in a bad crash the motor stick would break at the front leaving enough stick to reverse for a new mount. The items are on the website with beta pricing. The SS Kit will arrive next week and I will be installing the items on the new plane. It will have the V-Tail, 30oz thrust brushless and tri-cycle LG.

Here is the nose/tail gear mount. I have ordered a K & S Mighty Wire Bender and Coil Machine tool from Tower for $24.49 along with some 3/32" wire so I can duplicate the coil spring in the DuBro 1/2A Nose Gear that is now installed. The DuBro gear is fine for the tail wheel use but way too short to use for my nose gear as the Brushless outrunner I am using swings a APC 11 X 3.8 SF Prop for about 30oz of thrust. Note the coil is not needed as the 3/32" wire has enough flex without it.... I just enjoy Moding the Mods.

BTW: The flight tests on the prototype indicate that 1/2 of the stock stab/elevator for each side of the V-Tail gives plenty of control so I will be using that for my build the end of the week.

Received another bunch of Goodies today.
Here are pics. Pics should be self explanatory if not just ask. Note battery tray is made so other items can be installed under it such as a wing mount. Mounting tabs are for attaching a drop box, camera or any other special project you can dream up. I also have a single Servo Mount for the steering nose wheel. (not shown) The servo trays can not seperate in a crash as there is a piece of ply tying then together.
Dave is sending me wing mounts that will raise the wing 1" 2" and 3" more than the stock mounts and also will be for 0, 5, 12(stock), 16 and 55 degree dihedral. I am using 1" additional height and 16 degree dihedral on my build for better control. More later............

Many thanks for the running update and expose. I note that most of the upgrade parts are plywood based. Were the original plastic parts all that bad? Also, interesting to see the upgrade favors a V-tail construction. I have personally had little experience with V-tail planes, and the "beginner" planes using this configuration usually have been difficult to adjust for newbie applications. Nice to see someone actually making modifictions that can be marketed directly to SS enthusiasts. Thanks again for keep us appraised.

I'm looking at these photos and the shots on Dave's web site. How are you controlling the steering on the nose wheel when you have V-tail mixing going to the tail?
The only thing I can figure is you've enabled elevon mixing and put the nose wheel on the rudder channel.

The stock Slow Stick has 12 degrees. Increasing the dihedral to 16 degrees and raising the wing an additional 1 inch will enhance the ability to roll, increase stability and correct the sluggish response to control input making for a much better flying plane IMHO.

Have you folks done changes to your wing incidence on your modified Slow Sticks? While I never had any issues with my relatively tame SS I'm curious how your much modded birds fare.

Last of the Goodies I needed to finish the plane arrived today. Thanks Dave!
The first pic shows the available parts to make a wing support with a stock riser, 1 inch more than stock, 2" more than stock and 3" More than stock. They are shown on the lower row from left to right in the pic. Top row shows the available dihedral wing supports left to right is 0, 5, 12 (stock), 16 and 55 degree dihedral supports. Second pic shows the setup I an using for this build. One inch riser and 16 degrees dihedral. The 3rd pic shows my assembled 16 degree wing brace that was made up before I received the parts today and look how great it fits Dave's wing support. Will start assembling the plane tomorrow.

Plane ready to maiden. AUW is 26.5oz. Power Meter shows [email protected] with 2000 3S 20C Lipo swinging a 11X3.8 Prop. 30oz of thrust per specs.
That will give me 91.57W/lb. Should be a blast. Tail feather aileron function set up with 20% less down than up.
