A buddy at the field told me about BP HOBBIES A2814/6 and I looked it up and it seems to be a very close comparison to the motor that my Mustang is already flying. However, he was flying his new Black Horse Decathalon "EP" with it and swinging a 11 X 7 "E" APC and Wow, and tells me that he is pulling just 22 AMPs??
I am going to take out my Astro Flight WATT meter next time I see him at the RC Club and see for myself how many AMPs / WATTs.

HA! Nothing to do with Doubting Thomas manners, just that the BP Hobbies A2814-6 has an even higher Kv (1,100 RPM/VOLT) in comparison to the E-Flite 480 that I am using with (1,020 RPM/VOLT). Plus additionally, the motor constants are very close and such the A2814-6 would be right at the same AMP draw @ wide open throttle and my question is what would a setup benefit using the A2814-6 with the only consideration of reduction of Price of the A2814-6 motor?
I believe that I will keep the E-Flite 480 (1020Kv) until I see a motor with constants and lower Kv that might be a better setup to have a larger diameter propeller and keep those AMPs down.
Presently, my model is enjoying good Sport performance "airspeed" and this is exactly what I wanted.

Yes, I too own one Park Zone P-51D "Frankie" and I can only imagine what would have happened to it if it crashed landed nose first like what my new World Models P-51D Mustang "Gun Fighter" did during the Maiden Flight!!

This World Models P-51D "Gun Fighter" Mustang is very strong for such a light weight airframe made of balsa and lite Plywood.

Ha! I just want to be clear that I am not working in any capacity for any distributor nor manufacturer of RC model maker.

I just got very impressed with this all Balsa / Lite Plywood model and it flys just fantastic and if you follow those recommendations during the build-up you will avoid heartaches.
Glad that you will join me in getting another GUN FIGHTER in the air!

Guys,
Just came back from a two flight sortie with my World Models P-51D Mustang "EP" at the local Middle School here in Orlando, Florida with a large 440 Oval Track.
The model took off and landed on her mains with that smooth manners like the large Full size model. Nope, she did not bounce at all as I made sure that the model kissed the smooth hard paved track.
I noticed during an attempt to taxi back that the mains have a lot of slop and had to stop the model and walk over to pick her up and this proves my theory that these retracts will not hold close to 4lbs. as the advertised fully flight ready weight using those 4-cell li-polys.
Fortunately, the retracts tracked well on landing speed and the model did not exhibit to veer off course "or" ground loop. It may be possible that I might need to return the STOCK super light "FOAM" Wheels that came with the model for smooth hard surface.
I will try it out another day and report back.

I can tell you that we have come a very long way when it comes to ELECTRIC FLIGHT and ARF's now available as designed for ELECTRIC.
Take a look at this poor guy back in May of 2003, Jim Blanner and his Model Tech P-51D of 57 inch wing span with retracts and tipping the scales at almost 7lbs.
He used AVEOX Brushless motors and a few years ago they removed themselves from offering any Brushless Motors for RC.

The Slop that I am talking about is forward and backwards motion of the retract strut when it is in the DOWN position.
Furthermore, this morning (Super Blue sky morning with DEAD Calm conditions) I flew my Mustang for a 7 minute flight and I noticed that during take-off and activation for GEAR-UP the retracts stayed down and had about another 2-degree of travel left to go. I just placed the model in a inverted flying position and the main gear struts finally went inside the wing assembly wheel wells.
The activation for GEAR-DOWN went fine but, once it landed the Right main gear strut folded, fortunately the model was almost to a complete stop and NO DAMAGE!
On closer inspection after taking the model to the Club's Table, I noticed that the retract servo (Hitec HS-85BB) slightly moved during activation for GEAR-UP and GEAR-DOWN. It appears that the securing screws holding down the retract servo are not tight. Easy fix but, I have to take off the wing assembly from the FUSE.

Servo screws in balsa: Screw servo into location. Remove servo and place a drop of thin CA into each hole. Alow to dry completely. This should toughen the wood up in the area. Reinstall servo and FLY!

Okay,
Took off the Battery hatch off and with a small Philips Screw driver, I went ahead and tightened those two securing "Hold Down" screws on the Retract HS-85BB servo on my World Models P-51D "EP 40" Mustang and before flying her early this morning, I activated the retracts and they all worked flawlessly. I did not need to take off the wing assembly!!!
The reason they got lose was because I used those tiny square Rubber isolators and with the vibration and hard landings they did their job!!
So, took the model over to the local Middle School with a large Oval 440 Track and she lifted of like a home sick Dove
Flew the model for about 7 minutes and landed her on the soft grass in the middle of the Oval Track and she kissed the blades and did not nose over!!!
Perfect landing.
Hey, what you guys think of my replacing the Pilot of my World Models P-51D Mustang with one that comes with my PARK ZONE F4U Corsair? It looks to me that the pilot in the Corsair looks pretty good for the Mustang, what you guys think?

Question on the WM mustang 40:
Would 2.5" wheels fit in the retract well or 2" max? I fly off grass and anything smaller than 2.5" doesn't work.
Also could you take a picture from above with the corsair and the mustang side by side? I would like a size comparison.

Gaupoman, I have picked up my new P51D World Model today. I'm excited. Very nice components. Purchased from Hobbyzone (MPLS,Mn) for $129.00. There should be enough assembly to keep me busy for awhile. I also just learned that there is a product called Petro-Mat that can be rolled out on a field and will provide a suitable surface for ROG. If you have any info on this it would be great. You can PM me if you prefer.
