I called Horizon today to verify they had the Phoon they said they are looking at it today. But the Operator said it would be 2-3 weeks before they shipped it out again? has anybody had to ship anything back to them and waited this long or is this a cover their butts type of delivery window?

Thanks Louis,
I Saw that on ebay before I bought mine and I was like you heck I can buy a brand new one for just a little bit more. I wasn't expecting a new one the next day out I was just curious if anybody had been through this process before. And I am glad to hear that they will rectify the problem! I guess the wait begins!!

Its my favorite ebay store. I bought a brand new Typhoon 2 3D PNP for $80 with shipping which was rated as 8+. It was perfect, just had the standard waves in the stickers which is why it wasn't a 10. Haven't seen one go for that low $$ again.. but it may happen. Keep looking.. I will. I will snipe your phoon!

Default Flaperons

Hi fellow 'Phoon owners,

My parts arrived and I flew the Typhoon for the first time since a couple crashes last week. I flew at the baseball field at the end of my street instead of our club's full field and everything went well, though I did miss the extra room.

Because of the small space, I got to try flaperons and sure enough it did shorten landing distances and I could use less power during the final flare.

Never had luck with the flaperons myself. Although the SFG's add some weight, they give you extra control at slow speeds which has shortened my landing space.

I did notice a negative to flaperons today while flying in 10 mph winds - it's pretty hard to get it on the ground gracefully with them deployed.

Who knows ... but at least get a supervisor and ask for a plane or a refund or negotiate for another plane that they have in stock and can be sent to you on Monday.
I will probably do that. The guy I talked to today was a complete moron! really couldn't provide me any more info other than "I am sorry sir we will get to it as soon as we can" and "we are really busy right now" It would be different if I hadn't spent over $400.00 in the last 60 days with them!! That to me is a lot of dough!!

I also checked the in stock status and they do have them. So they can't use that as an excuse for no sending me a replacement!

Kerbob, Been reading about your Park 480 mod but didn't see what size prop you're using. Did I miss it? Thanks!

I'm also interested as well. Piling on - do you think a Park 450 would be a decent enough replacement? I'm thinking about upgrading the 450 in my MPXT to a 480 and moving its motor/esc to the 'Phoon when the gearbox goes out.

Regarding what I am using with the Park 480..
I was using the original OEM 13" prop. I had to use a 1/2" drillbit to make the hole bigger and that was a pain but I loved how it flew with it. I was drawing over 40A with it though at WOT and my friend was telling me I was probably slowly damaging my motor and esc. Well, I didn't listen and I got about 100flights this way. But.. one day I put the lipo in and the magic smoke came out. Thought it was the esc but it was the motor. Replaced the motor with another Park 480 1020kv ($$$), put it on and then the magic smoke came out again; this time it was the ESC.
SO.. I bought a 40amp E-Flite esc used for $30, and am now using the E-Flite recommended max prop of 12x6 for the Park 480 and I still love the hell out of it.

All that said.. I still wonder if the motor burned out because I was overpropping it or because of the dozens of times I wrecked it. Could be either. I felt the motor many times after landing on a long flight and the motor was just barely warm flying with a 13" prop.

Good luck Fatcat1!

Thanks for the 480 info Kerbob. I'm still flying mine on the stock motor, ESC and gearbox but am starting to get annoyed with the grinding noise in there. It's just a matter of time before a brushless with direct drive goes in. Speaking of, have any mounting recommendations?

Go get One!
I had the exact same thing happen to me and on the 2nd flight to......do you think I could get a replacement body even if I already glued the whole thing back together? Because all I did was snap the nose.

Maiden flight(s) went very well!! Knife edges O.K. can't get her to flatspin to save my life. I think she is flying a bit tail heavy so that might be the main problem. any suggestions as how to add weight to the nose and approx. how much? I was thinking about adding some lead fishing weights somehow?!!??!!
