Arrow ARF Upgrades

There's been a lot of discussion of ARFs on the E-flight mailing list lately, and this has prompted me to post another of my old QuietFlyer articles on my web site. ARF Upgrades discusses some ways to modify ARF models to make them better and more individualized.

Hi Stefan
I've found that if you keep the decals and change the rest, you can often effect a lot of improvement

Right now, and I really should document it, I have A Plan for the middling sized UglyStik clone my wife insisted on buying me for Christmas.

Long story, don't ask unless you really want to know

It basically involves stripping the whole thing down, changing the vertical stab to a real Ugly Stik rounded shape, replacing all the control surface hinges with ones that don't bind up after a couple of degrees movement, changing the fuselage pushrods, moving the aileron servos inside the wings, gluing the stabs on, and then re-covering it to look like either Phil Kraft's original (if I'm idle), a pseudo Sopwith Camel (if I aren't) or a Red Arrows colour scheme (if I'm really bored).

I might make a new fuselage as well - the present one is an overweight log of a thing and really needs an inch longer nose moment.

Next Christmas, I intend to pay attention when herself asks me what I want, so I don't end up in this situation again!
