Default Power System for Flying Combat Wing

Aloha Wattflyers,

I've been flying glow planes for the last two years with a group of flyers who also fly combat wings. Not wanting to be left out of this awesomeness I ordered a flying wing kit from a fellow flyer. The kit calls for a Mega 15/14/4C brushless motor or equivalent. I am having a difficult time sourcing this exact Mega Motor power system. Is there a comparable system I can buy from a national vendor (Tower/Horizon Hobbies)?

I don't mind spending more money get a quality system. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Welcome to wattflyers, the mega motor is a 28MM dia in runner motor, Here is a very good E Flite brushless motor, its a 28mm inrunner with 3600kv, its a EDF motor but it can be used on anything, use a 5x5 APC prop on 3 cells and a 60 amp esc, also use a UBEC of at least 5 amps, it cheap insurance with a 2.4 radio system to prevent a brown out situation. check your amp draw with a Wattmeter. you can use this set up with a 4 cell lipo too for even more speed and performance, you may have to use a smaller prop to keep the amps in check. this is a 850 Watt motor, so it has lots and lots of power

Thanks for the great reply and for posting the links.

One more question. Is it better to use ultracote, tape or some other material such as vinyl?

Hi I use color Packing tape, it works great over foam. Just a reminder, make sure the numbers on the prop face towards the front of the wing
