Default Futaba 6EX 2.4GHZ FAAST, is it a good next step up??

Want to step up from 4 channel to at least 6 with model memory etc. Found this on HK:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...r_%28Mode_1%29

Is this a good radio for the price. I know Spektrum DX6i go for over $250 which is a little out of my price range since i need to buy a few receivers as well.

I believe that the 6EX works with this rx:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...%28PREORDER%29

Does anybody have experience using these two parts together.

The other option is this:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...v2_Firmware%29

Which is heaps cheaper but I am sure not as good as the FUTABA one.
Any comments on pros and cons would be a help.

If price is your key Spektrum is a much better choice as the TX cost is once but the receiver cost is several or many!

You can find used DX7's and DX6i's for less than that as well. Just a consideration.

And the DX6i new is about $180 from reputable suppliers like Todds models.

I have to convert that to Australian dollars which doesnt work out too well. I thought that Futaba was a good brand as well.

Futaba is a good brand I started out with this one. I myself have been happy with it and I found a site on ebay to get the RX for around 58.00. Hobbyking is now producing a rx that is for futaba so far the review by one person has been good. The quality and range is the same as the brand name rx. Wait and see KH is way over priced on the TX and RX from futaba. When I get back I will post up the ebay site wher I get my rx from i bid low and I almost always get a second chance offer just a little over what i bid.

Here is the guy on ebay that I get 90% of my RX's from.

Agree Futaba is a great brand. But their receivers are very pricey. That is why I give the nod to Spektrum.

Again used systems are prevalent if price is really an issue as you say.

My son and I have both used the 6EX and have never had any issues with them. Just watch the classifieds in the forums and Ebay for receivers.

I picked up a DX7 from a friend at a good price. I have also picked up a few recievers from others who are moving up or just did not need them any more. You can find a lot of good stuff in the fourms for fair prices.

I started out with a Futaba 6EXA. It never gave me a problem, and to this day it still works great. The only reason I went with the Spektrum 2.4 instead of the Futaba is the model match Spektrum has. The Futaba will allow you to take off with the wrong plane programing. The Spektrum will not allow this. That is the only reason, well except for the 20 model memory.
Good luck, Andrew

Yeah, thanks gramps. Even with the pricey $50 US postage to Austalia, I think it will still work out cheaper. But too get a MODE 1 instead of the MODE 2 you guys in yank land like to use. Can they be easily swapped over if I can only get a mode 2??
Or does anybody want to sell me their old 6EX they dont need anymore?
