Default retracts added to pz stuff?

Hey Gang,
Has anyone added retracts to any of the Parkzone aircraft? Little electric sets from eflite or hobbyking?

Thanks

I have added retracts to 3 Habu's and installed a set in my PZ-P-47. I have seen them installed in the T-28 a couple of times.

All of the Habu's were E-Flite sets and I personally would not even attempt the nose gear install with the Chinese ones. Just my personal preference. The nose gear install on the Habu is not simple - it isn't particularly hard - but it is not a simple installation either. So if I am going to all that trouble I would like it to actually WORK after I get it in - every time.

I used the E-Flite set in my P-47. Easy to do as it is already set up for the install and it is a simple matter of screwing them in and making the necessary connections to the receiver.

I have a friend that had a set of the HK's installed in his P-47 and they failed after a few flights. These were some of the original offerings from HK as I understood it. I happened to have a set of the HK mains that I had ordered before and shelved as I had decided the quality was NOT what I wanted. When my friend's plane was grounded due to the loss of one of his - I GAVE him the set I happened to have on hand. He installed them (exchanged for the non working set) and to my knowledge they are working just fine to this day. He flies his P-47 almost daily if the opportunity presents itself.

Hope this helps.

Did the E-Flites in my Trojan. Wasn't bad at all. Work like a charm right out of the box.

From what I've read on the HK ones, the early ones were not that great, but the latter are pretty good. I would have gone with them except I had a gift card for Hobby Town.

Only bug a boo I've heard on the HK's is you sometimes have to play with the tx settings to get em to work correctly.

Really hope someone comes out with a set of 90-120 class rotating versions. I'd love a set in my TF Corsair.

The prices are amazing for these units, I added a set of mini air units to one of my original PZ Mustangs, the brushed version, around 2005, and they were $300.00 for just the mains. NEVERMORE!!!!!

I installed the eflite gear on my PZ corsair. I uploaded a YouTube video of it. Look for the link in my signature.

Great videos! I have a few on my Youtube channel as well. Do you happen to have any pics while you installed them? I recently got a PZ Corsair and would like to add retracts.

No videos or pics of the install but I can answer questions if you have them.

Cool! I assume you are using 3s for you power. Are you using a separate BEC for the retracts? I read on the E-Flight website they only list 7.4 as the highest voltage.

And did from what I have seen on other Corsairs with retracts is they use a small square of wood epoxied into the foam. Is this how you did yours?

Yes I am using the stock setup. 3s 30amp esc. No separate bec. I used two blocks per side of balsa wood to screw the retracts too. Used ca in the holes for the screws.

Wow! Nice install on the Bf-109! That must be a bear to keep from groundlooping or scraping the wingtips with such narrow placed gear? My PZ Corsair needs retracts, bad...

Oh ok, so the BEC on the ESC works fine. Could I trouble you for a few close up shots of your install?

Thanks man! BTW, I just ordered a set of the E-Flight retracts along with some new batteries and a new motor/esc.

I found a lot of different configurations of the retracts on corsairs but I like yours the best. They seem to tuck in nicely. This is why I would like some pics.

Thanks again!

TAILDRAGGER091 - That's a great installation. When the gear is retracted it looks like the doors are pretty flush with the bottom of the wing. Were you pretty close to running out of foam to get the gear that far into the wing?

I used the stock wheels, ground the excess on the colliers to slim it down and glassed the wheel wells. there was just enough room. It cut the wing spar, so I used carbon in the center of the wing to reinforce the wing.

With the gear down, the stock wheels give the BF-109 that awesome look, so I'm glad to see it can be done without having to go to a smaller wheel. Do you happen to remember how big of a carbon rod you used, and how long? Thanks for attaching the photo.

I used a Dave Brown fiberglass rod.
Here is a video showing were the rod goes from insignia to insignia. I also had to modify the the wheel cover mounts. They are epoxied on.

TAILDRAGGER091 - Looks like you did a good job reinforcing the wing. Thanks for the video, it's nice to see these mods up close.

Thanks man! Mine are pretty much the same as yours. I think my bend in the gear is in a different spot but I dont think it makes too much difference.

What did you use on the inside of the wheel well? I made mine too deep and I need to fill them in. I just got a new 1250kv motor and 40A esc so I cant wait to get her in the air!

Thanks again!
