Cool Another 'Dango

Franny,
I used eighth inch balsa sheeting for my wing-tips and kept the foil symmetrical. And I liked your diagonal stripe so much that I duplicated it. Remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I also did your rudder mod. Man! What a copycat!
I put an Ultrfly Frio up front @ 150 watts, slow-stick gear for and aft, and I cut the top off an old canopy for a sinister but cool effect. I guess it wouldn't be considered "cute" like yours but hey...what can I say? I'm a knuckle dragger! Ooh,ooh, ooh!
I finished last night but wasn't able to maiden yet because of wind. It's killing me but I'll wait 'til it dies down.
Thanks for all the great ideas,
Peace,
Bud

Hi Bud,

That looks REALLY nice!! You are going to LOVE it! I entered a "Frozen Fingers Fun Fly" with mine on the 1st and took first place!!! That is how good it flies. It slows right down but still turns on a dime. I can even get it to slope on the hill out back. Hey, I love the skull and cross-bones! I bet you find the rudder isn't super effective, but really helps on the turns.

So will we get photos when you fly it? I'd love to see it in the air.

Super job!!!

Franny

Franny and djcarld,
I'm still flying mine. It's one of my few planes that haven't been crashed.
It has a unique flying personality and if I ever had to replace it (shut my mouth!), I would.
Enjoy the build, dj, and good luck on the maiden.
Franny, I hope you're well.
Best wishes,
Bud

TY !! I'm just about ready for covering and final assembly. I bought a couple of friends Slowsticks for early Christmas presents, so They'll be on maiden flights as well.

The fundango brought me back into this hobby after 20 some odd years away. Unfortunately it didn't survive very many flights So I re-built it out of foam. Hot wired the wings and the tail feathers are $tree foam board all covered in silkspan and WBPU. It to didn't last very long but it was a hoot while it did.

BTW this is the very first thread I read when I first got back into this crazy hobby.
Thanks
Matt

Nice post/build by Franny.
This looks like a fun plane! I checked out the Fundango on my GF3.5 with various mod motors and had some fun.
So I googeled the plans and found http://www.svensons.com/airplanes/?f...o/Fundango.jpg next step is to sort threw the balsa lumber pile this weekend!

Hi All,

I've been a bit rough on the old 'Dango... It had a pretty major crash earlier in the summer and got completely re-built and covered with a new scheme. I then have torn the tail off twice! So, to help with the small runway I have to set this thing down on, I added flaps! Really just an additional servo for the ailerons, but it really does help setting it down. I'm still adjusting and mixing, but it is a fun addition!

Good luck with all those 'Dangos! It is indeed a unique personality in the sky. As close as you can get to control-line without the lines.

I had flaperons on mine too. Thats what led to its death. Don't get me wrong they worked great and really turned it into a floater. But on a landing it floated and floated then ballooned on me. I tried to gas it and go around buy lvc kicked in and it stalled and nosed in. Damage wasn't too bad, snaped the tail off and broke a prop but I had other birds to build so tore it apart for parts. I am kind of sad now I didn't keep her, live and learn.

Got any pics of your freshly coverd Dango?

Right! The flaps do change things quite a bit... Remembering where that silly flaps switch is always gets me... I think I will be mixing in a little down elevator with them as well to counter that ballooning. It might be easier just to fix the ends of the runway though!

I don't have any photos at present. I'll get some soon and post.
