Building the Slofly EPP 28" Mini 3D
#27

loker,
The good news is lots of folks have all kinds of design approaches that are giving pretty precise results. My 22" was flown by a IMAC unlimited winner who was quite surprised by the precision -- he's building his own now.
If I can do it, I'm sure you can!

After flying for weeks now, I did have to make a change in the basic setup, but only one. In hover, the ailerons just didn't have enough correction to counter torque when the plane was sitting in its own vortex, so I swapped out the HE540 for an Eflite 7.5-gram servo to see if that would give enough more grunt to bring the plane back around.
Yup! Best to do this up front, as the one thing that's annoying to do using my approach is replacing the aileron servo... the Eflite has more torque than the HS-55 it resembles (and is lighter. And cheaper) so if you have to buy one, I suspect it's a better deal. Can't say how durable yet since it's only been on there for a few days.

just finished mine and i cant believe how good it flies. you almost have to force it out of a hover, it torque rolls with almost no input, no coupling on knifeedge, and rolling harriers are EASY with it. i love it, made it from 6mm depron and it has an AUW of 7 oz on a 3s450mah.

I have just finished my first Slofly. I haven't hooked up my control linkage yet. A friend weighed my plane and it is comming in at .74 lbs with battery not counting linkage. I am using a Zippy 800 2s 15c. (This may change due to weight.) I have an 18amp ESC running a Blue Wonder 1300kv motor.
The prop is a gws 9050 prop. Have not test flown it but can't wait for area conditions to permit.
