Default Need build sheet instructions

Hi,

I purchased a Skyline Corvus 1880mm 3d Breitling ARF from General Hobby.

No build instructions of any kind were with the plane. I am new to building and thought this would be a nice winter project.

I was able to muddle through and put together the plane, but have no idea of servo placement, stab placement..etc.

I am of need of assembly plans/instructions and would really appreciate your help as I am new to all this.

Thanks BD, those are helpful, but I was hoping for exact placement of servos and air horns and stabs. These will get me closer to understanding what I need to do.

In the second picture, I see a servo cut out in the last area of the internal framing. There is probably another beside it.
Of course the forward area is for your battery, slide it back and for the until the plane balances, then rig up some way to hold the battery solidly in that spot. Don't just rely on a Velcro strap, (that cost me a plane)

Receiver goes in the area behind the battery, and elevator and rudder servos should go behind that. Some planes have servo mounts just forward of the tail surfaces hinge lines.

Linkages can be done in several ways, but they must be done correctly so that you will have smooth movement and no chance of binding. Nyrods or other brands are a tube within a tube, the outer should run in a smooth path to the control horn, exiting wherever the plane is set up for it, the outer tube MUST be glued to the plane at both ends and supported in the middle so it doesn't flex in a violent maneuver. The inner tube should slide freely inside the outer tube.

I hope I have helped if not some more pictures inside the fuse would help us.

As for the velcro strap. I get these from Home Depot. 15"x1/2" I put three of these around a 4000mAh 6s and the pro grade velcro on the floor of the battery bay. I like to treat the plywood where I stick the hooked piece of velcro with thin CA (cured of course). It is a chore to remove it after that.

Never flung a battery even with some ridiculously high energy blenders and knife edge spins. I have seen others launch batteries and it is not pretty.


I got the 60" MXS and am pretty impressed. Very nice hardware package (CA hinges will be replaced with Dubro Nylon pinned). Tight looking joints. Perhaps a little heavy on the epoxy but for the money, I am very pleased.

Three might do it, but I had a very high speed Striker doing about 110mph and stupidly tried an outside 1/2 loop. Two straps like yours, from Home Depot didn't work for me.

The straps were the only thing holding the battery to a plywood floor against some unknown amount of G force, it through the battery about 600-800 feet, we stumbled across it after the hay cutting machine smashed it.

I like the type that have a sort of buckle, they put twice the grip on the battery.

This plane did not come with the electric engine adjustable mount, so I guess I will need to find some balsa and make something up to work in it's place.

I will take some more internal pictures of the plane and post them. I have the landing gear installed now. Although this is a large plane the size of my paws will be a challenge. It was fun assembling thus far and am looking forward to the next challenge.

I had the Sbach 60 inch ws. Spike,take your time building your plane and she will fly great. General Hobby arf's are great and the price is certainly right.
I made the mistake using the wrong type servo arm on a hitec 475 standard that never should be used on a plane. My mistake caused the Sbachs untimely end. I miss having such a beauty in the hanger.

I have hovered over the "buy" button on the 60" Sbach more than a few times in the last couple weeks...

USPS from Cali to Chicago scares me too much. UPS is almost $70. That's a no go.

Spike, you are completely certain that no stack of plywood was included to build the electric mount? If not, I woud suggest calculating the length of standoffs. That nose already has thrust angles built into it making an adjustable mount just more $ and weight.

This was sent to my by the owner of http://skywardhobbies.com/ after I purchased my MXS. Nice folks to do business with.

This PDF details crossbarring to use a single elevator servo and building the electric motor box. Better to have excessive info than not enough.

Now that I see the servo position in the fuse is centered, it makes me believe the plane is intended for a pull-pull setup for the rudder. They work good when set-up well. Use a good servo and servo arm, that may have been what happened to tobydogs.

You probably have a servo mount in the back of the fuse, may be covered over with the film.

For some reason the plane you have does not come with a manual at all, I guess they are indented for those of us that wouldn't use it anyway,

I hope you get it set up well, it looks like a good plane.

Only wood I received was 3 interlocking pieces that are for something to do with a gas model. I measured from the face of the motor mounting surface to the outside of the nose cowl and got roughly 6 1/2 inches. I have not received the motor yet, so have no idea of the dimensions of it and what I will need to make it work. I ordered the servos (5) Hitec 35645S and the ESC Castle edge 100 yesterday and will probably order the motor eflm4110A 110 brushless and the RX tonight. I am thinking of going with a 8S battery or maybe 2 - 4S. I am sure I will need some servo extension wires as well as some misc stuff. Have any recommendations for glues and epoxies?

Yes, you are correct about the pull pull system. I received the cables and servo arms, ball couplers, misc bolts as well as the glue in arms for the rudders and ailerons.
I think you are correct about the servo mounts being covered at the rear of the plane, I can feel the holes where they might go.
I am one of those people that do not use instructions either, but in this case I am out of my element.

Thanks for the link.

Mine did not come with the motor box. I was expecting it to be with it, because I have seen them included in other links that I viewed while trying to figure this all out. "Heavy sigh"

Yes also new to flying...do they need to be mutually exclusive?

I am doing all this on my own, no one I know flies rc airplanes. It looks like fun and I thought I would try it. I am probably putting the cart before the horse by buying a large ARF plane that needs completing, without having previous knowledge. I thought it would be like model cars and have step by step instructions, guess I was wrong. But I have always been the type to just dive in when I have an interest. Beside that, it is like eating peanuts, you can't just eat one. lol

I appreciate all the help I have received on here from members.

Perhaps, I am reading into your question and overreacting, just seems a little strange to be asked such an off topic question 21 posts into a helpful progressive thread. I am NOT upset, I am however confused as to the timing of your question.

Your in for a real treat flying this bird as a first time plane. She will react to every lil stick input you give and go exactly where ever you point it. Just one suggestion......buy a trainer plane first. If you haven't flown before and this is your first attempt without the help of a fellow pilot hooked up to a buddy box, I fear your Corvus will look like this seconds after you launch.

I have several other planes, but have not flown any of them yet. I have a 55" Beaver I will be using for a trainer and yes with a senior pilot as a training expert. I don't plan on flying the Corvus for quite a while on my own anyway.
