You can always put in suitable 'finger' hold recesses in the under side

They are either side of the EDF (AEO 70 mm!) as it about the strongest thing in the whole plane!

I appreciate you have a prop to worry about but if you positively drop your arm as you release the plane your hand should be well out of the way by the time the prop passes.

The Parkjet has similar recesses for fingers to grip for launch ... nothings thrown out yet ... all possibles considered.

Looked in my drawer and all I can find is the old P1 Gyro that Banggood were selling .. its a simple 3axis with manual pots .... OFF - Normal stabilised - AVCS modes with V tail / Elevon and conventional outputs.

I never had much luck with it before - as it has a terrible setup routine where you are counting flashes of Blue / Red LED.

Today I fitted it and persevered ... I know some have had good success with it .. my biggest concern of course is that manual gain. At least with the A3 - I have Tx controlled gain ...

To save embarrassment - I have set my 3 pos switch as : OFF - OFF - Normal .... just in case ... YES ! I have accidentally taken of with that switch wrong ... gets very painful taking of in AVCS mode ... so I avoid AVCS modes like the plague !!

Just laying out wiring ... then its sheet top of wing... making sure all propped up level to avoid any twists.



I know I'm not the most tidy when it comes to laying out the wires !!

Top sheet on and letting the UHU POR really take ...



Because of the compound curves involved ... there is FG tape round the wing outer circumference

Weight check .... everything except cockpit top is 620gr .... that includes wheels etc. So once cockpit top is made ... looks like 660gr all in

She does have one area that worries me ...

Looking from nose back over wing ... the left wing (starboard) top surface has dipped behind that main spar ... enough that when viewed along wing to set ailerons - you see it. I don't think it will stop her flying - but may introduce some aileron trim ...
I'm think adding the stabiliser was a wise decision as that will help me overcome this.

If I was to build her again ... I would add some radial supports back from that main spar to support that top sheet.

I wouldn't worry too much. Deltas generate far more lift from the underside area and the vortex effect than the actual section particularly at smaller sizes. I doubt it will even be noticeable with the generous aileron area.

A nice thick wing yet the elevon servos stick out through the upper surface. Just saying! .

I know ... servos struck me as an eyesore as well !!

This happened because I was trying to find a way to mount the servos before sheeting over the wing. I set them into the wing sheeting before laying onto the spars. Without the arms and rods - it looked fine. Add the arms and rods .... UGH !!

I'm sure that after a period - I shall be building another .... things like this will be addressed.

I would like to consider an EDF version later ... given that I have kept it to the 660gr mark .... starting to wonder if those 30, 35mm EDF's would do it.

My thoughts are to keep to a flat-plate wing and the EDF's not be enclosed, but free to breathe.

Thats why I mount wing servo on their sides. Set the arms to be i right position before the wing skin goes on thus move the arm so it is below the wing skin. All you have to remember is where to cut the slot!
Of course it all works much better if the servos protrude through the underside as you can cut the servo arm slots before the top skin goes on.
With 3D printing you can make bespoke slot covers as well.

I do understand why you have then on top on the Vulcan although you might find it can land so slowly that damage to underside horns is not an issue.

Today I decided to swap out the LONGGGGGG U/C legs for the shorter Stinger legs supplied with the mounts. This means that the rear prop hits the deck at about 20 deg nose up ....

So taking the suggestion by another ... I fashioned a rear skid hot glued in front of the prop. When the nose lifts and tail sits down on take-off - the skid will hit ground first ... its longitudinal so it should slide ok,

It does mean of course no Vulcan steep climbs from take-off ! At least not until she's clear of the deck !
