Well she has taxied a couple times now. Fans/motors sound great and kick out some major thrust. Will weigh it and do some thrust measurements once my buddy gets my scale back to me.
Do have a issue using the stock legs with the new EFlite servoless setup. I think its more the fact that the stock legs are just not up to the task than anything else. So I am going to try something with the legs that came with the EFlite servoless gear. Will keep you posted.

My mod of the struts that came with the servoless gear worked brilliantly. No more issues or wobbles. Also I got a short maiden in. Nothing major or out of this work as I kept it half throttle or lower while trimming her out. I can say it is WAY twitchy on the roll axis due to me mixing the tail planes into the roll. At 55% it was borderline uncontrollable. But have since dailed down the throws even more and am shooting for a second hop tomorrow. I flew for about 3 minutes and only put 1784mah back into my 4000mah pack. Again most the flight was half throttle or less. Did get some video but the cam makes it look darker than it really was. Either way its something to show how it sounds and does.

The wing rocking continued till I got a good amount of altittude and was able to get it calmed down. Figured out what was happening and have it all toned down and handled.
These motor/fan combo's sound awesome. This is the second plane that has had this combo in it. The first plane is the reason I went for it in this one. Great power awesome sound.
Was gonna go for a second flight today but the fog didn't let up till early afternoon. Then the wind picked up, so it scratched all flying. Next flight might not be till sunday now as a front is due to move in tomorrow and get things soggy again.
Will get more vid soon

Well I almost lost the eagle today. Had a brand new JR servo extention snap a lead loose! The junction was not stressed or being pulled on so I have no idea what happened. The almost lost the plane part was it was the lead to one of the tailerons. When it lost signal it deflected full up
. This is where having the tailerons mixed to the ailerons was the only thing that helped me nurse it back. Believe it or not the only damage on the emergency belly flop is a bit of road rash from the runway. I wish I would have had the cam rolling. Would have been a holy
award flight. Going to visit the shop I bought it from tomorrow when they are open again.

Greg, The Eagle has never had a stock system in it. As soon as I started working on it I pulled the stock fans from it. Never saw anything positive about the stock setup running on 3S. So I never planned on using it. Plus I have a sickness......POWER
. The setup it has is:
SAPAC 64mm unit x 2
4000Kv outrunners similar to EFlite Park 480 4000Kv version x 2
Turnigy 60A Plush ESC x 2
Turnigy 4S 4000mah 30C batt.
On a side note she is flight ready again as the LHS replaced the extension on the spot
. Hope to take her up again tomorrow before the next weather front settles in.

I used the stock setup for quit awhile and now i'm bored with it, so i think i'm going with the 480's 4000kv and 2 2600 4s, the bad part is i might try and use the 40A esc's and see if they will handle it, not sure because the esc will handle 55A burst and the motor pulls about 43A so a bench test is in order.
the battery you are using did it balance well ?
good luck with more test flying

Greg, The pack I use balances perfectly just forward of the middle of the batt section in the bay. Sits right under the 2 velcro straps. Will shoot a couple pics here in a bit to show placement of electronics.
The ESC's might be ok but then again might not. I experience with these motors or any motor of similar spec is that when used in a SAPAC or clone (EFlite) they pull 46A on an adiquate pack. One of the reasons I chose the 4000mah 30C which so far has handled the job just fine while developing full performance. I chose also to play it safe and go with 60A's.

thanks Jason for the info, before I tear mine apart I'm going to measure the thrust because I have DonsRC motors in it with a 3s setup and claim to give 4s performance, But at this time it's all on idle mode, we got 8" of snow here today and spring is not until late March ):
your setup and pics were great

Greg, Thanks its a great setup and hope to be able to really put it to the test soon. Gonna try again tomorrow if the weather holds like they say it should. Got the cam charged and ready to go. The Don sells some good stuff. If I can get some good video you can compare the performance to yours and see.

Jay I watched your video and looks very impressive and sounds great, I watch the loop and it seemed to have unlimited vertical, my f-15 with its setup will only do a very short loop on the run and you have to make it quick, so I think what I saw was much more power, getting anxious for my upgrade. At 5.8 lbs. of thrust-very nice and
your landing was also very nice
stay in touch and fly safe

Greg, She is WAY over powered but its not a bad thing I dont think. Vertical is not unlimited but the closest I have too it at this point EDF wise. I have since added thrust tubes to match 80% FSA for my fan units. Plus covered the cheaters with tape for the time being. The sound has changed just a bit and she is even quicker now. I am happy with the entire setup from the gear on. Now she just needs her new paint. Do plan to stay in touch. Should have some more video in the next week or so showing how she now sounds and performs. Has turned out to be a great bird.
