Default Thunderbird 36 vs. HK Plush 40

I want to try a new ESC since my latest two motors don't seem to be performing well and I'm gonna blame the ESCs until proven otherwise. They're both SuperSimples, one 30 the other 40.

So I'm thinking of hitting the LHS for a Thunderbird 36, I love the TB I have 3 but nothing large enough for these motors.

I looked around HK and didn't find any ESCs that looked like a good deal.
The Plush 30s are backordered and the 40 in the same price, maybe more after shipping, than what the LHS might charge for the TB36.

Which should I go for? The motors are both from Don's RC one it the Wicked 2700 (Newer) the other is a "Wicked Witch", not a regular item that's similar to the HK KDA450H.

So far these motors with the same prop on similar planes aren't performing nearly as well as my real KDA450H did on heavier and larger planes so as I've said I'm blaming the SSs.

I'm a fan of the Castle products. Have no experience with the SS or Plush.
FWIW I was doing a bench test on a motor with a TowerPro. Got 150W for that test. Hooked up a Phoenix ESC, no other changes, same slightly discharged battery, power jumped to 170W. I could hear the difference in RPM.

Hmmmm - available locally and built in the USA with great customer support vs. mail-ordered from the far east with little or no customer support? Sounds pretty obvious to me.....

I didn't get any reply notifications on this.
Yeah I'm gonna go TB36 I just need to get motivated to spend the cash on it.

It's getting easier after today's flight on the SS ESC.
The motor tested with a 5x5 at 19.5 ounces of thrust and it could barely hold a 12.5 ounce plane vertical in my hand. x:
