A friend just gave me his messed up Walkera helli. It has a 72mz radio and I want to use the radio on a small rc plane. Can anyone tell me the aprox. range of this radio. Thanks Bill

Do yourself a favor and toss it. Walkera radios are notorious for being garbage. You don't really want to trust a nice airplane to a junk radio do you?

Also, depending on what heli that radio may not work for airplanes. What heli is it? What radio?

Thw Walkera/EF RTF radios are about average for a cheap RTF kit whether it be fixed wing or rotary. My heli uses the same radio and I would not trust it for something that can fly hundreds of feet high and 50 MPH. I also dont know how you could use the 4in1 RX from the heli in a plane.

That all being said my JR TX which is also 72mhz. will go farther than you can see, a 47" wing span gets really small even when its only a few hundred feet out/up.

Depending on what heli he has the thing could be a normal type RX not a 4-in-1 like in the DF#4. I have a DF#60 that has their 7 channel radio with a normal looking RX.

Also be aware, Walkera radio gear is not compatible with other radios other than servos. You cannot use a Walkera RX or TX with any other brand RX or TX as they use a proprietary signaling. From my experience (having had three Walkera birds) the radios are garbage.

Good point you make with regard to range and trust.

The radio in question is a 4 channel from a Walkera 22. 72.870mz. It has the speed control in the receiver. It seems to work really well. I will be flying a 600 ft radius also I would like to know what the amp draw on that motor. Thanks Bill.

Sorry, I don't really want to hijack this thread but I saw an opportunity.
If the Walkera Radio is a POS,. then which radio would you recommend for him?

Almost anything -but- Walkera.

Do some searching on the other forums and see just how well regarded Walkera electronics are. The usual comment when somebody buys a Walkera heli is to ditch the radio. Why do you suppose that is??

Hi,

I think Walkera quailty has improved some now. I have Walkera 8ch WK-2801 radio and it seems OK. I have opened it and looked inside. Not to bad. But I use it for Walkera 4G3 helicopter and fly indoor and for that puropse I think it is OK.
It is this radio:

Review:

It is this radio/heli combination I have:

Time will tell if the Walkera WK-2801 is junk or not.
