OK, I need advice. Someone at the lacal FC has a T6exa for sale. No servos or receiver. $40 Is it worth it? Can I get a crystal for my receiver?
Are the nicad batteries a problem and can they be replaced , at what cost?
The advantage for me is being able to cut the throws down.

Can't say if you can get a crystal, or even if the Tx will work with your receiver, without knowing what the receiver is. Batteries can be replaced and are not very expensive.
I don't know dollar prices, sorry.

When you say ".. The advantage for me is being able to cut the throws down."
Do you mean the 'rate switches'?, and your old Tx doesn't have them?
If you just want to reduce the control throws it can be done mechanically at the servo or control horn.
