Default Which 2.4 Ghz Radio are you using?

Since the 2.4 Ghz radio systems have pretty much taken over the RC radio system market, perhaps it's time to revisit an old thread on this subject.

This poll has been updated to show which brand or brands of 2.4 Ghz radio systems you are using.

Other.

I'm using an old FM JR XP9303 converted to 2.4GHz using the module system from Xtreme Power Systems (XPS).

But once XPS releases their new 3216 radio, I'll be using that, keeping the 9303 as a backup radio.

I have converted all my radios to Frsky .3xFutaba and 2 xTurnigy 9x.The latter two also have been flashed with ER9x.
I don't really need another, but I'm considering the Frsky Taranis.
I'll hold off for a bit in case any problems crop up with them.

Still using my trusty JR 9303. I did get it upgraded to DSMX back a couple years ago. My son still has his 9303 also but it is still on DSM2

Just can't bring myself to get a new radio since my AMA number is also 9303.

Why was the 9x left off the poll ?...... Consider that the numbers are rapidly increasing .... Far more numerous than many realise.

I wont vote - as "others" is far from true fact.

I guess if the owners take part in the poll and put their vote under 'other' and put a comment in the thread about what specific Tx they were voting for, than we would get an idea of just how numerous.

Looking at the new Frsky Taranis it does look like a Tx that could be a potential game changer 'if' they have got the build quality and customer support right (rather than relying on end users to support the product). Of course providing customer support and decent manuals etc all adds up to bumping the price up, you cant have it all ways.

For me.. I just splashed out on a DX18 too. I'm very happy with it so far, it does what it says on the tin , no issues whatsoever.

I have several different brands: Futaba, Airtronics, FrSky, Spectrum and one Orange. All have been flawless. There is a difference in programming them, some more intuitive than others and some do not have all the features you may desire but; ALL WORK WELL. How easy to program is pretty subjective, different people prefer different ones, usually because of what they have been used to using in the past. I have not had any range problems with any of them.

That is what I am talking about!

No brainer that Spektrum will be the number one on the list of choices. They may not be the best, but they rule the roost for the number of people using their radios.

It would not be any surprise when Spekie gets pushed of 'supposed' top slot ... FrSky with their own gear ... the 9x and it's updated I series ..... there are a number out there pushing the Spekie aside in terms of facilities on the radio ...

People make a big deal out of Service / Support ... given price difference between a 'supported' and 'unsupported' system ... I think the numbers of 9x etc. says it all ...... (just because people don't post on here ... doesn't mean they are not out there ... there are forums that have member numbers that would surprise ... )

The XPS 3216 spec looks great on paper, and the price (if it really does come in at what's been tentatively quoted) is super competitive.

The down side of course is it's currently unavailable with no date when it will be released. All the specs are still officially subject to change. No one to my knowledge (except Jim) has actually seen one in the flesh and the only 'evidence' that it exists at all as a working unit are a couple of photos that are years old and could be of an empty Tx case for all I know. In fact if I go to the XPS web site I cant even find a single reference to the 3216 Tx, even the 'products in development' page has no reference to it!

I absolutely sympathise with a business like XPS that has limited resources to develop and bring products like this to market. However I think it's been over three years since the Tx was announced and still no hint of a commitment to a release date. The danger if it's delayed much longer is that the march of technology elsewhere will overtake it before it's even available, to some extent some might argue that's happening already.

If there have been recent developments on it's availability that I'm unaware of I'd like to know. I'd be delighted to eat my words because something like this is just what's needed to get the established manufacturers to be more competitive on price on their higher end products.

Makes me thing of Volkswagen back in the 60's and 70's. Bugs were EVERYWHERE! They dominated the market for affordable economy cars for ages because no one else thought they would sell in the muscle car society. Eventually they all caught up by making affordable, economical and dependable cars of their own.

Difference is now all the companies trying to catch up are from china and simply copying what is already out there and selling it pennies on the dollar due to having such cheap labor to do it with.

Hi Bill
I'd checked all the sales ads for the different mfg's to put into the polling list. And, as expected, several more radio brands that were not in my five RC magazines popped up that are not on the polling list.

So, is it possible to add more radio options to that list after it's been submitted and running for awhile?

Yup
I checked all the ads in five different magazines, and Airtronics wasn't listed, along with several other brands per above.

Hopefully, the poll can be updated to include several other brands of radios that presently are not on the polling list. We'll see what the wattflyer moderators determine.

Methinks just add your radio brands to the new polling list, and leave the "Others" in place. After this polling runs as is, it should average out.
