Business for me is crazy days ... as you may have gathered - I have major works in Middle East ... and the developing situation is creating real headaches for me.

Rebuilding models such as this are like 'therapy', allowing me to concentrate on something completely different.

Unfortunately the other side of the ME developments is my travelling a lot now .. just returned from Bahrain and Dubai ... now skipping of to Singapore which will be absolute murder with Trump there.

I have the Lancaster to repair - so that will soothe the brow when I return ...

Its funny that all the repairs I do ... and I am NO master at this - believe me. I don't have the patience to get immaculate finish ... I get to what I call rough but practical !! The other day at that show ... I dragged out my old 64mm T45 EDF. Guys looked at me and you could see in their faces ... OK - here we go !! But it flew absolutely straight and true - so much so they remarked about it.

I don't understand binning models to be honest, there's always parts ..wing .. tail ... something that is good for another. This WOT4 - if I gave up on the fuselage - I have Colin's plan of the Watt Four ... same model .. so the good wing would be planted onto a new fuselage ...

I know I can do better .... but for now its good to go ...

Later I think I will go for a more 'vibrant' scheme and then she will get all sanded back / sorted properly.

Yes - I know ... balcony needs new decking !!

Well my WOT4 along with Tiger Moth and many others are in my Van sitting in Riga Airport car park ... and will be there for about 2 weeks.

I lost my car keys and cannot drive all home. I now wait replacement keys from factory.

Lets hope no vandals spot the planes in the car. Sorry about your keys Nigel. That would be a huge PITA.

The story is :

My Office is in Dubai with sub offices in Jebel Ali and Fujaira. Here's a story that shows that Terminal 3 Security and Emirates can be really good !

I passed through Term 3 just over a week ago on way home to Latvia. The detectors were on high and went through it 3x ... but still it Beeped and red ... guy took me aside and did a full pat down ... explosives / drug wipes ... Finally cleared and collected my stuff ...
Took my flight to Hamburg and because of entering EU etc. - passed security again ... it was then I realised I had left my car key in Dubai Security ....

My Car sitting at Riga Airport waiting for me to drive home. I telephoned a friend who collected me and we decided best was to leave car in the car park at airport and go home ... 3hrs drive. Plan to get replacement key from Renault ... (they told me ... 220 Euros and 2 - 3 weeks plus code programming at dealers only !)
Next day after getting home - I decided to telephone Dubai Airport ... they advised it would be better for someone from my office to visit airport.
Guys from my office went to airport ... Security had passed the key to Lost and Found. Emirates being my carrier were very good and arranged the Lost and Found to make key available ... my guys photo'd and sent me picture to confirm ... I sent back Car Technical Pass copy and confirmation it was the key.

I rec'd the key few days later and car is now at home. I can only thank Emirates and Dubai Security + Lost and Found for understanding and finding the key.

Just have to now fix my Volvo ... bringing the Renault back from Riga ... I was driving my Volvo and it started to act up ... looks like VVT may be failing again ...

Anyone else hate cars when they go wrong ?? The old days was a hammer and set of grips ... now its computers and all sorts BEFORE even a spanner gets looked at. And no-one wants to repair anything ... its remove and replace !!

The Wot4 has proven to be its typical amazing machine ... I can fly sedately on 3S .... with still some aerobatics ... 4S brings her alive to do routines ... 5S is WOW ... WHAT THE **** !

AUW was 2.2kg when first built ... 2.3kg after first crash repairs ... after latest repairs - stupid me ! I had aileron servo problem few weeks back and replaced both servos. Went out other day ... checked all fine ... but was standing wrong way to model for aileron check !!

As soon as she took off .. I just had that nasty feeling ................

She really went in hard ....... and I have had to scarf in a complete new front fuselage from about 3/4 way back along wing chord ...

All RTG to again ... 2.4kg. With 3.3kg from the 5S setup and that big chord fat wing - she'll be fine. Just maybe need to slide the battery back a bit ...

The aileron error really smashed her right back - fuselage up to about 3/4 along wing seat. Only salvageable was really the cowl, motor mount and firewall.

So here goes :

The split balsa sides were doubled with 1/16th balsa facings and sanded back.

The Lite Ply is actually fruit box ply from local market !!

Original weight was 2.2kg and then first crash when motor mount box failed ... repairs put her at 2.3kg. Where I don't have balsa sheet suitable ... I substituted the fruit box ply .. so now she's 2.4kg. But CoG is still spot on.

The thrust on 5S = over 3.3kg ... so with that big wing ... thrust ... she'll be good as gold !

Here's a follow up day .... two videos (same flight but different camera angles ... )

Very pleased ... pity about the rough grass tripping her up at end ... but no damage.
